Writer's Block: Gamer's Choice

How old school?

I mean, the original Soul Calibur (not Soul Blade) was a very influential game for me growing up- but that isn't THAT old school. I do own two Dreamcast's now (one which was stolen and recovered, the other my friend Gabe's) and bought copies of Soul Calibur and Sword of the Berserk (which, really was, in my opinion, a FANTASTIC game that wasn't surpassed in game play for years and still has something to offer).

I played Nintendo, Super Nintendo, N64 and Sega Genesis (and a bit of Game Boy and I had a Game Gear). Yet, I didn't consider myself a gamer kid growing up...at least not with consoles.

So at any rate.
I'll just break 'em down.

NES: Super Mario Bros. Particularly 2., Donkey Kong Jr., Top Gun, and the TMNT game- though it WAS too damn long.
SEGA Genesis: Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo- hands down the top. Yet, Wolverine Adamantium Rage was fun (and I've left it unfinished) and I enjoyed BOTH of the X-Men games. Comix Zone was alright as well, I believe I actually beat that. Destructable environs and decent action...albeit kind of a weak plot.

Game Gear- World Cup Soccer. Columns (a fun Tetris rip off).

SNES- Mortal Kombat 2 & 3. Super Mario Kart. Super Mario World.

I've already mentioned Dreamcast- but I'd have to add Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 (best arcade packed 2-D fighting game ever?) & Streetfighter 3 Third Strike to that (I love playing Dudley and other characters specific to that game, but gd Gill! Damn him to hell!!)

N64. Golden Eye (Explosives are fun...but not playing golden gun with a sneaky bastard). The WWF wrestling game was hours of distraction. Star Fox and Perfect Dark come close.

PSONE- finally and for good measure: Tekken 3. Other games I'd played on it were fun too, but Tekken 3 in the arcade and on the console was a game I kept playing until it was taken out of Egan's Bar and  recently here after disconnecting the console (my sister's, like most often the SNES and sometimes the N64 as well) from the TV.

I miss my PS2, Gabe hooked me up. It didn't have any screws. Some crackhead lady stole it but couldn't sell it at the Replay's that got my Dreamcast set up (also losing my copy of Soul Calibur 2 with the ps2). However, even with the new consoles, no way I could count PS2 since it lasted so long.
