Time to get my hands dirty- some how I spend more time (or it just takes me longer) to get start to finish on these political posts.
I had one set up to ridicule McCain...(in particular his mental fabrication of a
Iraq-Pakistan border) Also I was going to give props to John Stewart...but apparently
I don't have to pay my respect so strongly. The democratic convention is a bit of a mess, but at least it is all right out there in the open...

I suppose a conspiracy theory that would some how include how he isn't an American citizen would go something like this : "Clearly, according to this aforementioned documentation, Obama is an agent of Islam- a long held in reserve sleeper- bred and raised to be the ultimate agent of the Great Satan's destruction- the perfect Political Candidate to destroy America from the INSIDE!"
The document is flimsy at best- some nut on youtube, so this isn't a reliable source to me AT ALL- says that in 1968 (obama was 7?!) Barack- who was called Barry- went to a Muslim school- they say in the video a above a Madras school...or was at least REGISTERED as a Muslim at a CATHOLIC school under his STEPFATHER'S Indonesian surname.
I hardly think his stay in Indonesia was so marred by his step-father or his Muslim classmates (the CNN revealed report was far more measured and reasonable- he went to a public school that was PREDOMINANTLY muslim).
"But He's a Muslim!" My point is, this is fear mongering. The head of the "Just Say No Deal" group was on Larry King after Hillary's endorsement speech, talking about her vote like it was her virginity!
"He hasn't courted me yet"
"I'm a good Catholic girl and I don't give it up on the first date,"
"My vote is precious..."
I'm all about treating the right to vote as the small amount of recordable agency we have in the system, but come on...V is for Vote- not for Virginity...Obama's trying to help America, not get you knocked up as a single mom.
Clinton's Wealthy Die-Hards Are Contradicting Her Campaign's Message Really, the only CREDIBLE criticism in all this is that A. Hillary had a strong support base (at least fairly strong even if not very STABLE), B. He SHOULD be courting Hillary's supporters...even an emotional female delegate found herself crying in an CNN interview- saying practically the same that She's not quite comfortable enough with him yet.
I, on the, other hand, had the pleasure to listen to Ed Norton's measured and considerate endorsement of Obama on WVUA's airwaves during his conversation with my friend Corbin Martin on Crimson Conversations during a 'Get out the Vote' drive. Norton hadn't come on the air to tell anyone who to vote for, he came on merely to encourage college students to vote in the primary as part of a national call list for celebrities and no doubt politicians (Master P had called in as well- readily endorsing Obama).
He respects Sen. Clinton and he had worked with both Obama and Clinton, his home state being New York, but felt Obama was inspiring. He felt the country was ready for a "shift to new leadership." He felt the uniting potential was his reason for supporting Obama. Also that Obama was 'calling to an idea of a collective mission' - citizenship and service, I think those are good reasons.
And, at least most important to me he described Obama as someone that I relate to, he referenced that a conversation with him that went something like this (Norton speaking of Obama):
"I was talking to Senator Obama one time about Lincoln...he was talking about how people misunderstand Lincoln sometimes- because we attach such ideals to Lincoln, that we tend to think of him as the champion of those ideals- which in many ways he was because he articulate those ideals so well.
"Lincoln was an incredible pragmatist politically, he often said if he could save the union by abolishing slavery- he would do it, if he could save the union by allowing some states to retain slaveholding- he'd do it..." and Obama's assertion, "People sometimes think that politics are revolutionary...I don't think they're revolutionary...Politics is about respectful incremental change."
I don't think a comparison of Lincoln to Obama is without credence, in fact I think it is
hopefully and
eerily similar in how history seems to be repeating itself. The fact of the matter is, in addition to also being from Illinois, Lincoln was ALSO new to National politics- went from a short lived senate career to the presidency.
Quite a few speeches lately have made me come to terms- at least with what the Green Party's candidate has asserted- that the Democratic party (I'll reiterate that I'm at least with Pres. Washington in not liking political parties in our political system so much), still supports war as a means to an end...but lets be honest- in the real world warfare IS real. I just want someone wise enough and measured enough as Commander in Chief- I don't want Minute Mad McCain near the button, as enough people have said before me (I think I just came up with "Minute Mad McCain"- I can probably do better).
I don't much favor Kerry- never really did, I liked Dean, and I thought Gore should have damn well been our President for the last 8 years (or at least 4 years ago), but Obama has not just done better than Dean, he IS better than Dean as a candidate...he still has to answer to his constituency, get their votes, do things like assert himself and his reasonable judgment.
And to end this long in coming entry- with a bit of humor and good news
New McCain Ad Attacks Obama Kids. Hillary Clinton has put it to the convention to nominate Obama by acclamation
