I read this article on CNN today:
Former child prostitute now saves others It has really touched me. I wish I could express the full effect this short article has had on me.
I can't imagine how hard it must be for Somaly to revisit, every day, the horrors she had to live through as a child. Through helping these exploited children she is faced with her own horrifying past on a regular basis, and yet she does it anyways. Somehow she finds the strength to take what has damaged her and make it into a tool to help others. Her story is amazing, and heart breaking at the same time.
I am so happy to see that she can offer help to those who would otherwise have nobody, and at the same time I'm devastated that help is needed.
I’m devastated, that these atrocities are occurring on a regular basis all across the world, that anyone would do these horrible things, let alone to children.
That these things are being done even as I type is more than I can bear.
To think of what it must be like for Somaly and those that her help her... I only wish I had that kind of strength. I really believe that she is a woman that any person could be proud to look up to. She is the perfect role model.
I hope that Somaly's organization can make a difference, not just in Cambodia, but all over the world. The fact that she has already saved so many through her tireless efforts is a miracle. From the bottom of my heart I wish I could thank her for making this world a better place, one child at a time.
