Title: Reconnecting
Pairing: Quinn/Rachel
Rating: PG-13 for language?
Word count: 1058

Quinn thought often about reconnecting with her old classmates, but reconnecting for real, not that crappy Facebook way. That site was dumb, if you asked Quinn’s opinion. It was only useful when one felt like stalking friends (or old friends) without them knowing. Other than that, yeah, it was pretty useless... But, as much as she thought about reconnecting in the end she always found some random excuse not to do it.

Of course, the universe has funny ways of making things happen. The past came out of nowhere, forcing Quinn to face what she had feared, whether she wanted to do it in that moment or not. It happened in Starbucks, of all places... who would have known?

“Well, hello there stranger.”

For a second Quinn got no indication that the other girl had heard her. In fact, Quinn was about to tap her shoulder when Rachel turned her whole body around and suddenly they were facing, and boy, did she looked shocked. But this was Rachel so of course the shock was promptly replaced by excitement.

“QUINN!”

Her reaction made Quinn giggle, but it didn’t last long. Instantly she was pulled into the tightest hug she had ever gotten, at least coming form such a tiny person.

“Oh my god, Quinn! I thought I had heard you, but then I was like “no way” but then... It had to be you! Oh, my. What are you doing here!? How are you? How’s life? You have to tell me everything... everything!”

Quinn blinked repeatedly, processing all the comments and questions she had just received. In that moment she realized how much she had missed her old friend.
There had been a time where Rachel was more like an enemy than a friend, but she was glad that in the end they managed to sort things, no matter what their past was (and they sure had gone through a lot of stuff, oh yes).

“What am I doing here, Rachel? This is my place, my city... I think it’d be better to ask what are you doing here, miss Broadway star.”

She had read a lot about Rachel Berry in the tabloids and the occasional blog (okay, Quinn had googled her a few times, so what?!), those tabloids wasn’t always very nice to her, Quinn didn’t want to believe all she read. She knew better. She knew the woman, Broadway couldn’t have changed her that much. The shy smile Rachel gave her, she got no doubt that in front of her she had the same person she had known.

After exchanging a few more pleasantries Rachel offered to go buy Quinn a drink. At first Quinn refused, saying she’d go get her own, but Rachel insisted and joked about how she was a Broadway star and Quinn was just a poor law student - could she even afford to go to Starbucks?

“So what does a future lawyer drink? Something fancy with hazelnut, cinnamon essence or are you an espresso girl? ”
“Just a dark mocha chip frappuccino, okay?” Quinn laughed along with Rachel, who gave her a “uh huh, sure it’s ‘just’ that” face.
“Maybe you should write that down for me, Q. I might be able to remember all sorts of scripts and songs, but oh my god, a dark mocha chip frappuccino...”

Rachel kept teasing her for a bit as if it were the most natural thing in the world, as if years hadn’t went by without them knowing from each other. It just felt right. Then, they finished their drinks without talking much, they were just enjoying the company, smiling, shaking their heads because... what are the odds?

“So, Rachel... why are you here?” Quinn couldn’t resist, she had to ask.
“It’s... complicated.”
“Try me.”
“I made this bet with some Broadway friends... and... well... I ended up here.”

Quinn sipped her drink and just stared. Rachel apparently had hoped that she’d be content with that -really, Rachel... really? - but then she started talking again, at a really fast pace.

“So, see, they made me go to this fortuneteller and basically the woman said that I’d find love soon, which sadly it’s the reason why my friends forced me to go there, they’re worried about my single status...” Rachel blushed slightly. “Anyway! Thing is, she specifically said that I’d find love in this place. Not in Starbucks I mean, in New Haven. Not a minute after she said New Haven they had already booked this trip for me, and well, since it was a bet... I had to do it, you know?”

By the end of her story, she looked positively mortified. Quinn couldn’t help it but smile. It was just adorable.

“That’s... honestly, Rachel. I wish I’d be more surprised but...” Quinn ended up laughing a bit, which made Rachel blush even more. “But really, good for you. I mean, looking for love... that’s an honorable thing to do.”
“Stop mocking me, Quinn!”

That only made her laugh more. Rachel was trying to look pissed but failed, Quinn assumed she wasn’t trying really hard because she was a great actress, and Quinn knew that not being able to pull that face off was so not Rachel Berry’s style.

“I wish I could help in your quest, but...” Quinn looked at her watch and frowned. “I have to go now. Classes and everything. Unlike you I can’t take some days off to go find my true love or whatever.”

Rachel glared at her, and Quinn restrained from laughing. She couldn’t not smile, though. But hey, Rachel wasn’t really angry so she wasn’t worried. Wanting to change subjects, Rachel spoke again.

“I’ll be here a few more days...”
“We should totally meet.”
“Totally.”

They both grinned.

“Here, have my card.”

Quinn rolled her eyes. Of course she had a card.

“I’ll call you as soon as I finish, okay? Feel free not to pick up if you’ve found your love. I mean, I’ll understand.” Quinn winked at Rachel.
“You’re silly, you know. Good thing I’ve missed you...”

When Quinn left Starbucks she felt happier than she had felt in a long time. She turned her head around, Rachel was looking at her throw the window. She smiled and waved, the other girl did the same thing. Quinn’s heart fluttered.
Maybe... just maybe... No. Impossible. Or... was it?
