[Abby pokes her head in the door. There is a moment where it's possible to believe she's safe, unaffected, BUT THEN:]

What is it? Are you- are you seeing things?

[She takes a few unsteady steps into the room. It's pretty difficult because the floor is swirling and it's like water, only not, and oh god her feet are sinking into it and it's all mixing and with every step she's absorbing pieces of it. The floor and her feet are now one and there are strings of floor traveling up her leg and she is just STARING all wide-eyed and forgetting to blink.

In a hushed whisper,] My bones are carpet.

[There's blood running up the walls.

Stephen's pretty sure that wasn't there this morning when he went for a run.

The direction of the blood bothers him more than the blood itself--but that's only because he's reasonably sure the laws of physics haven't suddenly switched places, since his feet are on the floor. He thinks. Maybe the walls are the right way around and they're all on the ceiling for some reason?

That still doesn't really explain why the walls are bleeding, but... well. At this point, Stephen's pretty sure he can feel individual synapses firing, and he'd really prefer to keep that to a dull roar. If the walls aren't hurting anyone, might as well let them alone for now.

Stephen's standing behind Abby, bracing himself one-handed on the doorframe--the doorframe covered in blood. Oh. Right. That's probably not a good plan. Let's not irritate the walls any more than we have to, shall we? He hastily yanks his hand off the frame and starts wiping it on his jeans--and the blood's not coming off oh god oh christ why isn't it ( ... )

[ Connor's head had snapped up when he'd heard Abby, but his eyes are wide and slightly hysterical as he fails to make sense of anything either of them are saying, on account of both of their faces melting off. He blinks, terrified, and they're back to normal, but the dodos aren't gone at all. Okay. Less terrifying. Slightly. Maybe a little bit. Not really.

He raises his arms and holds them palms out, face contorted in apprehension and anxiety. When he speaks, it's barely audible. ]

Guys. Guys, don't come in. There are... [ swallows, glances around. Ohshitohshit. ] There are dodos, guys. All around. Everywhere. You can't... don't... they'll infect you. Don't let 'em bite you. Scratch you, or -- remember? Remember when? It must have been a rainbow anomaly.

[ One of them is REALLY close to Abby's leg and oh god please wander away soon, the last thing he wants is for Abby or Stephen to get hurt and he doesn't want them to die, and... oh, wow, okay, one's gone from puce to incredibly yellow, sick-yellow, and it's eyes are... are ( ... )

[It's not just the carpet fibers that are inside Abby now, it's like it's the spirit of the whole barracks, man, and she can feel it. She's in tune with it and it is her and she is it and she may, in fact, be the queen of carpet. Story at 11.

--Oh. Oh wait. Connor is talking again. This might be important. She listens intently, rocking a little on the balls of her feet.]

I don't see any dodos. [It's true. Totally dodo-free environment. The walls are doing trippy things and she's still feeling the lifeforce of the floor, but she's pretty sure she'd notice big, stupid parasite-carrying birds waddling around. Probably.] Are you absolutely sure there are dodos in here?

[Just to be on the safe side Abby takes another look around, her eyes falling once again on the swirling, pulsating floor. It ripples out away from her and in the ripples there is, for a moment, something resembling the distinctive thick, curved beak and plump body and she jerkily sidesteps, balancing awkwardly on one foot. She looks from Connor to Stephen in horror.] ( ... )
