Davesprite was more than a little surprised to get a call from this 'Convoy' guy. He hadn't paid much attention to the other people on the Marker-destroying mission, but a huge robot was kind of hard not to notice. Seemed like an okay dude.

Things were quiet on the Maverick right now, so he had no problem taking off for a short visit to the Junkyard to help Convoy out. He wasn't entirely clear on what this was about, but it seemed legit. And even if it was some kind of trap, he could probably abscond easily enough.

He teleported to the Junkyard and flew up to Convoy, nodding slightly in greeting.

"Sup."

Finally. Nemesis let go of the impatience, giving a nod in return. "Dave," he said, relaxing a tad before turning and raising an arm to point. The heap of junk was one of the larger ones here, bigger than him - and that was saying something, for someone seventeen feet tall.

"Can you reach that?"

I'm okay with that! featheryasshole May 3 2011, 16:28:53 UTC
"Sure, no problem. Anything in particular you're looking for?" He flew a little higher, peering up at the heap.

"There should be a bead of metal - about as big as your head. I don't want to risk damaging it I am identifying it correctly." That should be a suitable explanation, as to why he had asked for help.

Davesprite nodded and took to the air. It only took a few moments to find the item in question. Taking it down took a little longer, as the thing was heavy. If he descended too quickly, he might lose his grip and drop it.

After some effort, he finally managed to take it down safely and set it carefully on the ground before Convoy. "Is this it?"

"I think so." He reached to take it, the weight nothing in his greater hand. Unthinkingly, he reactivated scanners to take in its makeup.

This was a mistake.

Immediately he was bombarded with messages - temporal instability detected, temporal tear detected, incoming dimensional flux, everywhere, noise - enough to evoke a surprised, staticky hiss before he realized it. His doorwings went rigid as his fist clenched, nearly breaking the metal before he recovered enough to turn those damned sensors off.

"I hate this place," he half-snarled to nobody in particular.

He frowned as he saw Convoy stiffening. He wasn't entirely clear on what was going on, but he had spent enough time around machines (and being one) that he had some idea what it meant. He offered a sympathetic look, though it was not really visible from behind his shades, and shrugged.

"Yeah, it sucks major ass. Still, I'd rather be here than back home."

"You'd rather be adrift in space than back home?" Nemesis considered this for another moment. "...well, you have your kind, here." Or at least close enough to such, he amended silently. Had there been another colored creature...? He could hardly remember. It must not have been thought of as important.

'Your kind'? What was that supposed to mean? The pink alternate him or the other Striders? He didn't voice his confusion, though.

"Yeah, that and I'm dead if I go back home. Not exactly looking forward to that." Not anymore.

That evoked a stare, and a long pause.

"...and not come back, like you did here." It was a statement and a question in one.

He shrugged again. He had no real problem talking about this; the thought of his own death had long since ceased to be disturbing.

"No respawn back home. Not for me, anyway."

"And others...have it?" It was getting a bit confusing. "Is death not final?" He was mildly disturbed by this. It was supposed to be, that was why it was, well, death. The exceptions were not what he wished to think about.

"Well, not like here. It's kind of complicated, but in certain situations, certain people have an extra life. And then there's time travel, of course, but that's different."

"..."

He shook his head, slowly. "Time travel I understand, though that would create paradox in certain situations. Extra lives...it seems wrong."

Davesprite raised an eyebrow. To him, the mechanics of the game were laws of nature. There was no wrong or right about them. "That's just how it is in my universe. Or group of universes or whatever. I'm not sure how that shit works."

"Hn. Hopefully it is contained to yours." There was no need for such a thing where he came from. Still, the idea of it happening at all - how would that even work? And for it to be so casual?

It had to make sense to them. And like how something he'd take for granted...wouldn't. At least, that was what he told himself. It was the only thing that made sense.

"As good a reason for staying, then, as any. I suppose there's nothing you can do."
