He'd run out of room. Mostly none of the notebooks or papers he had were big enough for the calculation he wished to write out. And placing a bunch of papers together across the floor didn't seem to be ideal for one simple fact. The dog. Shockwave had spent about half an hour contemplating if he should use the walls, possibly even the ceiling, but in the end decided that he was better off using something else.
He was tired, he needed air, and he needed to think and plan the perfect strategy to get to Hyapatia and somehow get Soundwave back. Sure there were notebooks filled with his calculations on how to build something that could get him home, or possibly to any other world if he could program it correctly. But. None of that seemed good enough if he didn't know where Soundwave, his Soundwave had been taken to. He'd hit a dead end in constructing something to pinpoint where in the many universes his Soundwave was. The Hyapatia plan would be the one to provide the most beneficial results if done correctly.
So obviously the best way to work it out was to head down into the street and use the very ground as a means to write out his calculations. It was not as though the place were busy or anything. And it was just chalk.
