Testing Course Alpha glad_2_see_u March 15 2011, 09:19:35 UTC
The course was ultimately incomplete and that chagrined GLaDOS. She didn't like having to make due, but it was a simple enough matter to create it as she went, especially if she only needed to make one course for two subjects.

The elevator carrying Geordi would land in the area shortly. Eleanor was already in place. GLaDOS surveyed the multitude of turrets, the water hazard, and the high energy spheres dispassionately. The puzzles were relatively easy (considering they had two guns), but if she could kill one of them.

Well...more's the better.

The lights flipped on and GLaDOS waited.

Geordi waited in eager anticipation, humming to himself, as the turbolift moved down to the next level. The tests had increased in difficulty as they'd gone on, but Geordi thought he'd done pretty well, considering.

He was still immensely curious about how the portal gun worked - the energy use alone must be massive, but for the moment, he'd abandoned his efforts to take it apart and figure out just how it ticked.

That could wait until after the test.

And the cake.

The door opened with a soft ping and Geordi stepped out, eyes drawn immediately to the energy spheres. Those were new.

And then he noticed the other person. Geordi smiled, stepping forward.

"Hello?"

Eleanor was not happy. She'd been stuck in this maze of puzzles for what felt like days, and none of her tricks were letting her get out. If she destroyed a wall, the infuriating machine replaced it immediately. Teleporting just seemed to put her back where she was. And now she'd gotten dumped in yet another maze.

Eleanor was not happy.

She'd decided to take a moment to rest, so she was sitting on the floor, her diving helmet sitting in her lap, her arms resting on it and her head resting on her arms. When she heard someone else approaching she sat up, pointing a glove covered hand towards him.

"Who are you?"

"Hey there," Geordi answered, keeping his voice calm. He couldn't see a weapon in her hand, but the way she was pointing at him was clearly meant to be a threatening gesture. He raised his hands, showing that he was unarmed and meant her no harm, and took a step closer.

"My name's Geordi," he said, and smiled. "What's your name?"

She studied him for a long few seconds before she lowered her hand back down onto her helmet. "Eleanor." She answered, her voice quiet, her gaze shifting back out towards the maze.

"I take it the creepy voice has been driving you through these mazes too?"

"I guess you could put it that way," Geordi said, a little surprised. He hadn't really thought of the voice as creepy, but maybe if you weren't used to the computer talking to you all the time...

He walked over, crouching down near where Elanor was sitting on the floor.

"Not enjoying the puzzles, huh?"

"I have spent too much of my life being led through situations I couldn't control by people who were using me for some goal I did not understand." Eleanor sounded bitter. Because Eleanor was bitter. Just a little.

Maybe more than a little. She sighed.

"No, I am not enjoying the bloody puzzles. I tried to burn the last one down, actually. She dumped me in here instead."

Geordi frowned a little, concerned.

"Hey," he said, still friendly. "It's all right. I think we're just about to the end, anyway."

He glanced around the room, at the energy spheres and the turrets, and then back down at Eleanor, smiling.

"We'll find our way out together, all right?"

She studied him for a long few moments before she pushed to her feet. "I suppose we have no choice." She agreed, looking out at the course. Her eyes were slightly narrowed.

"I will remove the turrets," she said as she tugged her helmet on, her voice getting hollow as the speaker inside clicked on. "Unless you want to."

Geordi glanced up at the turrets. He hadn't really regarded them as a threat before - they'd fired a few shots, back in the other room, but never come close to hitting him. And he was sure there were safety measures in place.

Actually, he thought they were kind of cute, especially when they talked to him.

But if it made Eleanor feel safer to take them out, he wasn't going to argue.

"Fine with me," he agreed, and started looking around the room, trying to figure out a strategy for where to fire the portal gun, and how to get out.
