True, in a way, it's a bit ironic for him, but he still feels it's necessary. Duck, cover, find a good spot. Keep your back on the wall, have the high point, finger on the trigger, shallow breaths, soft steps.
Not that he has a kill in mind, but in an unknown environment, it's a natural reaction for him.
The place reminds him much of the Citadel, so he quickly found his way into the vents of the place. Perfect size, perfectly dangerous for the unskilled. Perfectly deadly with the skilled.
For him, here, it is not quite safety, but the closest to the point in which he feels at this time.
Here, it's a wonderful perspective, and Thane is watching those on the other side of the vents.
