It had taken a lot longer than he would have thought, tracking Soundwave down. He hadn't been entirely certain that he wanted to, things were better between them now, but hardly perfect. There were still things that needed fixing, emotions that needed definition. Sorting out.

Perhaps it was no more than needing a break from work that was getting him nowhere. Not his usual break from work with work, but. Relationships were complicated that way.

As quietly as he can he steps out towards the communications officer.

"I know this must not mean much, coming from me, but I am certain he felt the same way." He didn't know Skyfire all that well. Just really the bits from Starscream's memories. Still. he feels like he could say at least that. "Just. In a less formal way."

Eventually Shockwave just lowers his head. There isn't much else he can say.

The matter doesn't matter to Shockwave, and he understands that. Soundwave has no expectations pertaining to this, not in relation to the other Decepticon. Skyfire was perceived as a threat to their relationship by Shockwave.

...That emotion, Soundwave has learned very quickly whenever he saw Shockwave interact with. Well. Anyone. It was odd and ridiculous, but that didn't change the fact that he felt those things.

Lightly, he leans his forehead against Shockwave's shoulder, just for a moment.

"I WAS NOT CERTAIN HOW ELSE TO HONOR HIM." Skyfire had been a Decepticon once, after all. And his friend.

A pause, then eventually the communications officer says, "YOUR PRESENCE: APPRECIATED. ...THANK YOU, SHOCKWAVE."

"Your way is fine. I am certain." he speaks softly, slowly sliding an arm around Soundwave's waist to pull him close.

This was a sensitive subject, he knows that much. It has to be dealt with carefully, he cannot say anything that would upset the other. Even if there is not much he can say. Not in this situation.

It needed to be treated with as much care as any of his experiments. If not more than that.

"And you can thank me when I find a way to bring him back. Alright?"

He'd still look into it. Until he found a way. Even if he didn't like the mech, if it would make Soundwave happy, then it had to be done.

Just about any contact with Shockwave pleases him. The light embrace is more than enough. Occasionally, of course, he'll make his demands, but usually this makes him complacent.

Loosely, he places his arms around Shockwave, smiling faintly.

"ACKNOWLEDGED. HIS RETURN HERE AT THIS TIME, HOWEVER, IS NOT PRIORITY ONE. UNDERSTOOD?"

He enjoys walking around the garden zones. There was a time when he'd walked the earth, traveling from place to place, managing to get by hitchiking at night and hiding on freighters. Ten years was, after all, a very long time, and in that time he'd seen a great many places ( ... )

The gesture confuses Soundwave, if only for the fact that he does not recognize this individual. The Decepticon tilts his head faintly as he glances to the stranger, adjusting his voice to sound. Normal, by human standards.

"I do not recognize you," he comments. "Did you know Charles?"

The pretense seems pointless now, other than the fact that it's easier to get information pretending to be a human. Otherwise, he could not care less. It's simply become a bit of a habit now.

"Apologies for interrupting," he said. "And no, I didn't know Charles."

He shrugged. He'd seen someone named Charles post on the comms, and this person - Joseph? - as well.

"I had stumbled upon this quite by accident, and it felt like the appropriate thing to do. To show a little respect."

He wasn't entirely sure why this man was bothering to pretend. He was hardly human himself, and that was terribly obvious up close - the stitches, the leathery skin, the faint glow in his eyes. But then again, he still wore his coat and gloves, and he'd since placed his hat back on his head.

They both had their pretenses, he supposed.

"I'll leave, if you wish to be alone."

"Negative. You may remain, if you'd like. I am certain he would enjoy the company; he was much more social than I was."

Soundwave picked and chose who he'd protect, who he'd deem his; Skyfire simply enjoyed people, through and through.

The Cybertronian glances at the scarf, then turns away to sit at one of the benches.

It's a good thing for Soundwave that Sarah doesn't arrive in time to hear his words - or, more specifically, the suspiciously mechanical nature of his language.

She steps out from behind the trees and stops abruptly at the unexpected sight, recognizing it for what it is immediately.

Softly, Sarah steps up beside the blue-haired man and joins him in gazing respectfully at the marker.

"I didn't know there'd been a death," she says quietly. "I'm sorry."

This voice he knows. The woman who probably "owns" T-800. Interesting.

He turns and nods to her politely. "I am uncertain of his fate. Whether he is dead or he found a way off; the former seems... more likely," he admits. And Soundwave accepts this possibility.

"It is good to meet you in person," he comments. "Greetings."

Sarah nods in silent agreement. As far as she's been able to find out, escape from this place seems impossible. His friend is probably dead.

She turns sharply to face the man when at his next words, her defenses going up slightly. She doesn't like the idea of anyone having the advantage of her, an apparent stranger knowing who she is.

"You'll have to forgive me," she says carefully. "We've spoken?" She's talked to a lot of people over the network, and has a tendency not to ask or give names; this man could be any one of a number of people.

A hand if offered out, albeit a bit stiffly. Much about him does not seem particularly relaxed, but that could be blamed on his military background... and his rather lackluster personality.

"Joseph Howard. I spoke to you about your... friend, borrowing him for awhile in order to make the communications tower." His lips twitch, not quite smiling. "I have not seen your face, but I never forget a voice."

Something of Soundwave's specialty.
