She checked her device, it was four-fifty five in the morning, rally was in five and Carter called for full armor. Well, here she was. Standing in the middle of her room, dressed to the nines in full attire. Save for her helmet. Black-Two didn't lose things, in fact, she was looking right at the damn thing.
"You can't sleep in there, Jiji," Two glowered down at the fuzzy little ball in her helmet. He was snoring. Two didn't even know cats could snore, let alone that loud. By the time Jiji was popping snot bubbles in her helmet, her patience broke.
She had to act, desperate times and all that. Accessing a seldom, if ever, used application on her device, Two hovered her forearm just above Jiji and hit, 'Play.'
Music came screeching out of her device, some awful squeal picked at random. Something called, 'house music.'
Two's face was mauled by the time she made it to rally, but like it mattered. She was wearing her helmet when she got there.

Deep down, he'd always known it was coming. To say he'd hoped would be untrue; he understood that most of the people on the station were utterly unprepared for the day Hypatia would try to kill them all, but Emile had always at least suspected. And they'd made the same mistakes Emile had seen in planet after planet destroyed by the Covenant - the only way to win, to really win, was to strike fast and hard where they least expected it, and that was damn near impossible in a place like this ( ... )

She wished she didn't have to ask.
It wasn't that she wanted to live this way - paranoid, suspicious, never able to take anyone at face value. She hadn't been born like this, after all. Once, she'd lived a normal life: gone to work, gone to school. Rolled her eyes and shrugged it off, with just a touch of uneasiness, when laughing friends pulled her over and sat her down in front of the news - you're dead, honey.
Not anymore.
She pulled the door open just the tiniest fraction, pistol gripped tight in her other hand, and looked out. York was standing there - or at least, someone who looked like York was. He didn't try to push it open further, just waited, patiently, looking faintly amused. He knew the drill by now ( ... )
