[The feed opens with Jin and a cat. Only it's not one of the clockwork cats; it's a real cat this time, a scraggly gray and white one. It's currently draped around Jin's shoulders, nestled down into his scarf and fast asleep. When Jin speaks it's in a low voice.]

So uh, randomly these guys found me. [He tilts the camera to reveal two more cats ( Read more... )

[Kind of an odd expression.] A friend back home got adopted by a cat. Didn't realize there were any of them outside, I don't know, the garden zones.

Hi, Shaun!

Yeah, I don't know either. They must be strays. I think cats secretly have teleportation powers.

... I think I read speculative fiction like that once. Or, you know skimmed.

Actually, now that I think about it, I think it was more like the cat who walked through doors. That's slightly different from teleportation, right?

Heh, sounds like a neat story, really! Yeah, though, I guess phasing is different from teleportation. Either way, clearly cats are magical.

Apparently!

How was the walkabout?

Oh, it was great! It's beautiful out there, it really is. You forget it's all on a space station half the time.

... glad to hear that. I mean, I guess some of that can be used by everybody.

Granted, my conditioned reflex is to be on full alert when I don't have clear lines of sight all around.

Yeah, I can understand that. Thankfully there aren't any zombies here. Though I did get chased around by a bear and a moose and a tiger and...a honey badger too...out there.

... you got chased... by a badger?

Man, those things don't even hit the forty-pounds KA line, why'd you even run from it?

A honey badger! They're really vicious!

Well, probably, but how much damage can he or she do to you anyway?

Besides, aren't they vicious when they feel in danger or some such?

Well they can bite through tendons, I think...it's just a really bad idea for anything to bite me.

Honey badgers are kinda, uh, special.

Mph. I guess I'm too used to be only afraid of bites from potentially amplified creatures. Things that aren't going to make me amplify? Well. They can heal.

Although I guess that one would be nasty. Makes running hella difficult.

Anyway. You managed to get away?

Heh, well, I have to be a...little more careful around animals than most people.

Yeah, haha. It gave up once I'd left its territory.

All right, I'm even more curious. What might happen if they do bite you? What about the cats? What about cat scratches?

It's just, uh, my blood is a little dangerous. Cat scratches usually aren't bad enough to worry about, but anything else could be pretty...unfortunate.
