[video // 100% encrypted to the Abraxas anti-virus team]

OOC: Flynn has a list. I don't. You know who you are.

[It's not clear where Flynn is right now, but it's indoors, because the glow of the computer readouts hanging in the air around him is pronounced. It doesn't look like the default skin of the wearable interface; Flynn's heavily customized it since arriving. In fact, it looks exactly like the ( Read more... )

Inquiry: location of virus designation: Abraxas?

Will eliminate threat.

[Flynn was half expecting something like this, and just shakes his head.]

Negative, buddy. If you de-rez him, Hypatia will just re-rez him. We gotta think laterally on this one.

[He doesn't like the sound of that.]

Confirmed. Directive?

[Flynn dismisses a few windows so that there's nothing between his gaze and Tron except the program's helmet.]

Right now? I want your input. You're my System Security head, man. Analyze the situation for me.

[Flynn's response doesn't take much longer than it would a fast typer to enter the text. Obviously he's been thinking about this.]

The problem with fighting fire with fire is that it gets away from you. Look at cane toads. Abraxas is obnoxious right now, sure, but has he done any real harm? If you're planning to introduce another variable like that, you need to have good reason.

About corrupting non-programs...tricky. On the Grid, I'd be inclined to think a user could have fought off the infection with some effort and no lasting damage, but here? Yeah, I'd say we need to consider the possibility. I don't think it would manifest the same way as an infection in a program, but I do think it's possible it could jump the species barrier, if you want to call it that.

The question is whether this has occurred to Abraxas yet.

OOC: Um, so who was actually on that list Dillinger forwarded to Flynn?

OOC: In that case LET'S WING IT.

The damage to the Grid was because he was targeted to do it. He's inherently chaotic, so it is possible that he could adapt to a new environment, but he shares no code base with Hypatia or any of the non-Grid AI. There's a species barrier there, too.

I have some experience with bio-digital transference, but it's still pretty much black magic in our world. We're going to want to bring in someone from a world where this kind of thing has gone beyond proof-of-concept.

Unknown if virus can infect equipment contained in station. Clarification: hologram projectors, transporters, etc. Suggest looking into.

Unknown if he can infect Users that possess identity discs.

[Though it's something he's worried about.]

Hi, Anon.

Do you know if he's tried to infect anything yet?

[Even if the text doesn't show it, he's happy to speak to you.] Greetings, Flynn.

He has threatened to do so, at the social event. [Freaking space prom.] I did not allow him. Advisory: Abraxas seems fixated on harming me. Those in proximity and my known associates at highest risk of potential infection.

That could have just been a gambit. Has he shown any evidence of being able to carry out a threat like that?

Normally, my gut instinct would be to trap him and dissect him, but I get the feeling he'd just come back, so maybe just stopping at step 1 is a good idea.

Ideally, I'd like to restore him to who he was before, but the corruption may be too deep.

Well, you're more familiar with this particular brand of infection than I am.

What do you think the chances of that are?

The odds aren't good, but I owe it to who he was to try.

Clu's the one who's most familiar, but I don't know if there's anything we can offer to get him to help on this one, and he'd be playing both ends against the middle, anyway.

How similar is the general program base code to, say, what's on my disc?

Not very. ISO code is in a delicate balance, which is why Clu was able to just go in and start poking holes in it. As far as I can tell, ours is more robust. Not nearly as elegant, but way more fault-tolerant.

I wasn't really talking about Abraxas' code, but that's... good to know, I guess.

I was just trying to figure out if there was any way to translate what I've picked up from looking at my disc into something workable for the vaccine.

Oh, whoops. Misunderstood you there.

Again, not very. We're messy. Programs are neat. Knowing your way around a disc for something besides throwing the thing will help, though.
