[Flynn is sitting at a desk, not paying attention to the camera. Floating in the air in front of him are the usual forest of holographic displays, and a light blue geometric solid (first stellation of the icosidodecahedron, if you were curious.)]

Diagnostics all clean?

[The floating shape turns into an orange octahedron and answers him in a ( Read more... )

How many do you want?

[Griiiiiiin. Flynn is entirely immune to Zaeed.]

[ This honestly breaks Zaeed's heart, as he vied for the attention of someone he was still convinced was an eccentric that traded his cannabis for coding and poorly militarized boy fridays. ]

One, if it can do live combat ammo counts.

[Flynn's cult of personality is based on the fact that he really is God as far as the programs are concerned.]

255 is a string of eight ones in binary.

[Meaning that, given how much ammo Zaeed expends, he'd need a lot of bits.]

[ Zaeed would like to argue how it's still sketch as all hell. ]

Wait, so

[ He actually counts under his breath. ]

[No, that's Clu. Understandable mistake, given they share a face.]

Only 'Grid' I knew of was a Terminus smuggler's outpost back home; called it that because it's founders were a couple of disgruntled Sirta Foundations tech heads pulled camp to manufacture their own equipment on an abandoned asteroid mine. Weapons and extranet tech, mostly, so they could trade with the more powerful information brokers. Something about being cowboys, hell if I could remember. Used mercs for product transport, went smuggler soon after. Nice kids, I liked working for them.

[ ... ]

Derailed that real quick.

When I say "Grid," I mean a computer-simulated world. Not much smuggling, as far as I know.

None whatsoever. Most of the glowing people are from there. Our stories will match, I assure you.

[On the facts, anyway. Interpretations of those facts will vary wildly.]

Yes.

[Would Bit lie, man?]

Best to get it straight from the horse's mouth, experience tells me asking the followers is about as effective as grilling a parrot.

[ He shrugs ]

Not interested in poking around.
