I got to talk to
shm_hisforever on the phone the other day! WOOT!
She sounded so wonderful!
We scored big time at the market this morning :D. Fresh basil (home made pesto here we come!), peppers, carrots, 10 lb bag of onions for $2 (home made french onion soup! YUM!), clementine oranges, plums, nectarines, broccoflower, radishes as big as a baby's fist and lots and lots of other fruits and veggies! :DS
My son seems to be doing well on his diet. It's nearly impossible to totally cut sugar since a lot of fruits and veg have sugar, and salt, inherrent in them but he's making healthier choices, reading lables and he'll split an order with a friend when he's out.
Here in North America portion sizes are totally out of control! In some places one serving will serve a family of four in Ethiopia and other third world countries with some left over to take home! I'm only slightly exaggerating there.
If you've ever watched Guy Fierrie's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives you'll notice that the servings in the places he visits are enough for a family or at least two meals, some times three, if you eat a portion there and take the rest home!
I get strange looks and teased at work because I'm always snacking rather than sitting down and eating something more substantial. I find my energy level stays higher for longer if I have those small snacks through the day rather than a large, heavy something at lunch time. I work in a hot place so eating something heavy just makes me tired and I have a hard time staying awake.
breathes is planning on making antijitos soon :). We bought everything for them and then forgot the cheese, lol.
The weather is absolutely beautiful lately! Cool nights for sleeping and the days are nice and warm (thermometers say hot) and with very little humidity it's quite comfortable! I'm a happy camper these days because the days are so nice. I'm taking in as much Vitamin D as is good for me, trying to store some up for the coming short days and resulting lack of sunshine.
