My heart goes out to those in London. I can't imagine living what they're living through right now! I don't know details, I just know that I have online friends living through it right now.
I go here
www.happynews.com/index.aspx when things get me down or I just want some good news for a change.
My sons tell me that someone brought a knife to a gunfight in front of their house one night last week. About nine police cars, bicycle police, k-9 units, the whole shebang was there. Apparently one of the people involved hid in a house until they were threatened with having a K-9 dog sent in after him. I would have loved to have seen them trying to run the obstacle course that is their street right now. It's dug up for water main repair/replacement. There's only one way in or out by vehicle right now, lol. The so called road is all rocks and dirt and about as uneven as you can get. They wouldn't have made it too far on foot because they would have fallen or twisted an ankle. My son tells me one guy went to hospital with a cut hand.
Naturally son #2 was upset about missing it and missing his chance to tweet about it, lol. The only place in the house he can get a wifi signal is in his bedroom which is at the back of the house, away from the excitement :D. Thank goodness is all I can say :D. He wasn't even home at the time any way, which only added to his disappointment. He's gotten over his disappointment.
More lay offs at work, rather, they called most of the people back and are having to lay them off again *sigh*. What this means for me I don't have a clue as yet. Until told other wise I'll be reporting to work at the regularly scheduled time--7:00 am!
I met a really awesome couple over the weekend. Rather
breathes and I did. I help moderate the local poly yahell group and approved their membership. Her (male/female couple) application had a link to her LJ profile. I emailed her and the four of us got together on Sunday :), had some really awesome conversation and drinks! I'm hoping we can do it again soon.
I'm missing a lot of my LJ friends :(. Life has been biting them, they've switched to different journaling apps or they've switched nics :(.
The weather has cooled down considerably! Less than a month ago our daily temps were in the low to mid triple digit teens Fahrenheit (with the heat index, without it was still in the low triple digits), now we're in the mid to high 80's and very little humidity! YAY! I actually had to wear pants & a sweater to work this morning, lol. When the weather's cool it can get down right cold waiting for the bus if you're wearing shorts and a tank top! lol I was able to wear shorts home though :). Perfect weather for sleeping!
The days are warm and sunny, the nights nice and cool so I am getting some much needed sleep.
Someone needs to learn how to judge traffic and timing a weeeee
(sarcasm implied) bit better!
We were supposed to meet at Timmies (local coffee shop) at four,
much later they finally showed up!
I don't know what happened to cause this to not wrap around,
sorry those who are reading it.
I live a rather mundane life, I'm trying to add some excitement by
meeting new people. Sometimes those people don't show for the
meet up, nor do they email to cancel or apologize :(. Another one
to right out of my want to meet list I guess. :(( It doesn't happen
very often that someone doesn't show but when they don't I get a
little bit upset. I know life has a way of getting in the way but is
that any reason NOT to at least send an apology? The first time
this happened I emailed her and asked what happened--she
couldn't find the place and the weather was totally wintery awful!
The second time she didn't show she emailed with some lame
excuse but I wrote her back with days/times I was available.
When does she pick? One of the days I'm unavailable :(. I wrote
her back requesting a different day/time with the reason. I haven't
heard back from her and this was nearly nine months ago!
A couple of weeks ago I was supposed to meet someone for coffee
(third meeting)but he had to cancel (he was in the middle of moving,
understandable) so I simply asked him to let me know when he was
available to go for coffee. I haven't heard anything back yet.
Tuesday I got a nice surprise :D.
solstice_sings picked me up at
work! Tuesday is our regular date night. I had made a coffee date
with someone new since his work schedule used to have himgetting
off work at 5:45, now they've got him working different schedules so
I never know WHEN he'll be off :(. He accompanied me to my coffee
date. Coffee date ended up being a no show :( *sigh* At least I had
someone to talk to, a WONDERFUL spinach & mango wrap with a
spinach/arugula salad, an all natural soda (Blue Sky, I think
http://blueskysoda.com/ ) and a really wonderful cup of tea!
http://www.yelp.ca/biz/cafe-pyrus-kitchener is where I go for my
coffee dates or when I'm in the mood for an awesome cup of tea,
vegan/organic food offerings or just want to chill out in a homey
place with good music, books, board games and friendly staff. It
isn't too loud, either the decor or the sounds in the place. It isn't
very large but the food is really very good and I do believe they
have introduced me to me new favorite cola! BlueSky is all
natural and has cane sugar, none ofthis HFCS crap! I've only
tried the Creamy Cherry Vanilla so far but it IS yummy, you can
actually taste the cherry!
Well, I'm off to finish some email, etc. before bed.
