I've been using the same set of cheap, white bedsheets for four years, purchased from IKEA a couple weeks after I moved to SF. The pillowcases have turned yellow in the spot where my head rests, and they're starting to tear. The next wash will most certainly destroy them.
I noticed Macy's was having a one-day sale, so I marched down there this morning, gulped hard, and bought an 800 thread count, 100% Egyptian cotton, "hotel quality" replacement set, which cost about ten times as much as the IKEA sheets.
Even though bedsheets are a necessity, and I keep reminding myself of the importance of a comfortable sleeping environment, I can't stop feeling guilty about how much I spent on them. I'm doing great financially, but I can't seem to break out of the frugality mode I imposed upon myself a year ago when I was paying off the last of my debt. I feel like I should be hoarding/saving as much as possible. Maybe it's the Midwesterner in me, or my dad's fine example of fiscal responsibility, but Christ, Barry, live a little.
