I love how sometimes the universe kicks you in the face at the most face-kickingest moment possible. Like last Friday, when my 4.5-year-old Dell laptop died not one minute after I'd just spent eight hours reformatting its hard drive and reinstalling software.
Fortunately, there's a consolation...

Have you installed Windows via bootcamp? If not, wait a couple of months before you do it. Seriously. I lolled like, so hard when I saw how gimpy Vista looks, versus OS X.

As for XP, I'm determined right now to get by for as long as possible without it. I bought Office 2008 and Photoshop CS3 for the Mac so I wouldn't need Windows, although there are a couple compelling reasons, such as Java 6 support (Macs are stuck on 5 because they do it themselves, unlike everyone else who lets Sun do it), a richer LJ client (Semagic for OS X, PLEASE!), and streaming movies via Netflix. (Okay, I'm laughing at that last one because nobody likes watching movies on their PC.)

The only reason I installed Windows was for a class (I needed a 3D modeling app that was in-between Mac versions). I hate to be a Gloaty McGloaterson, but using Windows after seven years of having a Mac is like going from central heating to tending a camp fire. When I first heard that startup chime, my head hit the desk.
