If you know me IRL, you've probably heard these at least six times all ready. What can I say? I think I have the most amazing kid ever.

Henry and I were walking along in the afternoon sunshine. The branches of the mesquites were hanging low enough that I had to duck and dodge them. Bees were buzzing lazily amidst the green. Henry was jumping up, trying to bat the lowest branches.
"Henry, leave the branches be, please."
"Why?"
"The bees are up there."
"Are they going to sting me? I don't want them to sting me. It hurts when they sting, and it makes your skin red."
"If you leave them alone, they'll leave you alone. Bees only sting when they get frightened."
"The bees don't want to sting you. They just want to make honey for you to eat, like Pooh!"
"That's right."
That evening we walked the same path. Henry was whispering and telling me to "Shhhh."
"Why are you whispering, Henry?"
"Because the bees are sleeping, and I'm nice to the bees."
****************************************************
Crickets were hopping to and fro along the walk. We were talking about our plans for the next day. I saw the cricket hop and land directly on the spot where Henry's foot was about to fall. He crunched right on top of it. I didn't say anything, and I hoped he hadn't noticed. It must have registered on the edge of his consciousness, though, because he took about two more steps, hestitated and turned back to look at the smudge of a cricket.
"What happened to him, Momma?"
"He's dead, Henry."
"Did I do it?"
"No, you didn't do anything wrong."
"I wouldn't do it."
"I know Henry. I know you're a kind boy."
"Yes. I know that everything should be allowed to live and breathe. The crickets are happy to live and breathe."
*************************************************************************************
"The world changes; doesn't it, Momma?"
"What do you mean, Henry?"
"Well, first it's light, then it's dark. Then it's light; then it's dark. Then it's light; then it's dark. That's just the way it's supposed to be, right?"
"Yes, Henry. That's exactly right."
