Yay time for another update!
Thursday night Shana, Spencer, and I went to a club called ¨La Excusa,¨ where chicas get in free. They love the women here haha. We hung out with one of our friends who had shown us around the university. First they had live music with a pretty large brass band, and then they switched to DJ. It was so much fun dancing with the Mexicans….they really know how to dance! I´m hoping that when I return to the states, I will have picked up some of that gracefulness hehe. At the club, we also met up with Sarah Hiller, who graduated from Dickinson in 2006…..she is teaching in Mexico right now, has a very nice male friend, and is just a great girl. We bonded pretty hardcore.
So this weekend we got our current group of 8 together (one more person hadn´t yet arrived at this time) and we took a trip to San Miguel. It was so much fun! We took a first class bus for an hour to the bus station of San Miguel, and then took taxis to Hostel Alcatraz, where one night costs 100 pesos, which is 10 dollars. We went out for dinner and then drinks, and just kinda walked around the city exploring and shopping. San Miguel is a pretty touristy city, but it was a good time. We went to one bar that said to come back at 9 because then they would have 1 peso drinks for the chicas, so that would be like 10 cents, so we said we would come back. When we did, they said that it was ladies only, and that each lady would be accompanied. But we didn´t want to ditch our boys, because we thought that was unfair, so we just left for a different bar.
Saturday we went to Las Grutas, which are hot springs. It´s like a pool with caves and tunnels, and instead of being heated pool water, it´s simply heated by the hot springs! Very cool. Later that night, we went to dinner at this little backyard restaurant that seemed family-owned. Then the boys wanted to go to a sports bar, but the girls didn´t want to, so we decided to shop a little and then return to the chicas-only bar for 1 peso drinks. But when we came in, the guy said that was only on Friday nights! We had missed our chance haha. But it was still fun. We were exhausted by that time from the busy day, so we went to bed early.
We checked out on Sunday, had some breakfast, and headed home to Queretaro, having spent about 100 dollars each all weekend….which, while it felt like a lot, was actually pretty awesome. If you think about it, that is easily the cost of one night in a hotel in the USA. Today classes started, but it´s kinda different here. Instead of having most of your classes scheduled on the first day of classes, the first week is sort of viewed as a time where you´re changing everything around. I think I´ll be taking a translation course and a literature course along with my grammar and culture courses.
Our group is getting very close, which really makes this whole experience so wonderful. I can´t wait to see how closer we get later! Now I see why abroad people have reunions and such. You pretty much LIVE with these people day in and day out.

Miss and love you all….email back anytime!
Besos,
Er
