i decided to check out your journal after you posted on the k_z comm and what you experienced here struck a very familiar chord, so I just have to comment...
i'm brown too.. and non-christian.. i'm way past high school now but I still remember these discussions.. they still happen to me today when i go to work.. it's a fact of life that you're going to meet people who are less tolerant than you, who are more ignorant than you and who are so setin their ways they don't even attempt to understand the differences between you...
so here's what i've learned: respect their right to their opinions, respect their right not to want discuss their opinions, and understand that you can never communicate honestly with someone who covers their ears and eyes.. maybe it's a cynical lesson, but really as long as you are considerate, compassionate and respectful, there's always the hope that one day they will open up to you and uncover their ears long enough to have an honest discussion..
but you can still care about ppl who disagree with you, you can still love someone who hates.. don't cut all ties with your friends over this, or you lose any possibility of ever opening their eyes.. just be patient.. you don't have to respond in the moment.. pick your battles
::hugs:: you sound like a wonderful person, your friends are lucky to have you
