The Captian's Coming!
K so. I am so excited to go to college!
I just had orientation on Thursday and Friday, and I registered for all my classes and I got my CNU ID card and everything. I think they call it a "Captian's Card" because our mascot is a Captian. Captian Chris to be exact (ya know, for CHRIStopher Newport?!) Anyways. I am super excited. I had a lot of fun. This is what my schedule looks like:

Okay, so I understand if you didn't read every word of it, because it's hard to understand, and I made it small so you wouldn't try to read it all thinking there was a chance. So here is the schedule in easy to understand words and numbers:

So. As you can see, on my MWF (mon, wed, fri) classes, I have a block where I go non-stop for 5 hours. Much like high school. Only, no 20-min break. But on my TR (tues and thurs) classes, I have two early classes (BOO!) and then two later classes with nothing in between. Dr. Fowler (my advising instructor - kinda like a guidance counsoler - and also the lady who directs all the vocal ensambles) was like "Oh and you can do a lot of practicing in that time!" lol Yeah. I mean, I will...but that's not what I first thought of. You see, the way we make our schedules is we go in for an advisory meeting with all the other people who have similar majors and they tell us the classes we NEED to take and then classes we SHOULD take for our degree. For music majors, they have it pretty much planned out for us. We need to take the first year seminar (ULLC) and we need to have a major ensamble (women's or men's choir depending on your gender) and we HAVE to take keyboard, ear training, music technology, language (for singers), performance attendance, and anything else that's listed above that I didn't mention. I'm not taking anything extra for my first year. All those classes are music classes except my ULLC. And I knew that it would be like that going in.
ANYWAYS! The first night of orientation, we had to go to our room or somewhere on campus and figure out the best schedule for us. Unfortunately, I accidently picked the very last orientation, so a LOT of good times for my classes were closed. That sucked a lot. But there were a lot of classes that I really couldn't take at any other time anyway, so it didn't matter as much. For example, the Women's Chorus (grr) only meets at one time, the performance class only meets once, the language class is only one time, and then there is another I'm not sure about.
Then, to top it off, I'm also in a "Learning Community". An "LC" is something where students with the same majors apply to get in one of these things, and if you get in, you get some classes together (for sure) and then you'll live on the same hall and in the same rooms as people in your LC. So, we know that the Music LC is in York River because it's the closest residence hall to the Fergason Center which is where ALL of our classes are. The only class I don't have in that building is my ULLC. So yeah. They had me in those classes before I walked in the door. Only one class of mine changed - the class I have at 8 was at 10 or something. I'm kind of mad about that. I didn't want an 8 AM class, and then I was forced into it. I mean, yeah I applied to be in the LC but I didn't know there was an 8 AM class. Oh well.
But yeah. For those people who know me at all, you know I HATE women's choirs. Well. I still do. But as a music major I have to be in a "major ensamble" for all 4 years. For instrumentalists, it's marching band. For singers, it's either Men's or Women's chorus. If you want to be in the Chamber Choir (mixed) then you have to audition again and then have both choirs in your schedule. I'll never be able to escape the women's choir. Even if I'm in Jazz and Chamber, they don't count as "MAJOR" ensambles, so I have to be in Women's whether I like it or not. Which I think is VERY dumb. Whatever. Gah.
So anyways.
That's what is going on in my life when I go to CNU.
I am hungry. I shall eat.
