FALSE: A Tale of Truth

Jul 21, 2007 11:02

Here's a preview of my newest story, FALSE: A Tale of truth. (And no, Lanzuki isn't my real last name, it's my pen name.)

And of course, I need to first give a translation guide, since some words are in japanese. (I'm sorry, but I couldn't resist!)
Sensei: A teacher, an instructor, or a coach/trainer. It can also be used when talking about politicians. In this story, it is only used as "teacher"
Mahou: Magic. Plain and simple as that.
Majutsu: Black magic. (Side note: In this story, black magic isn't evil or bad. it is actually just really powerful. It's black because it is super concentrated. The only thing that is "evil" about it is that you have another person living inside of you. It is of the opposite gender.)

FALSE: A Tale of Truth
By Lunamaria-Linaeve Lailani Lanzuki

Have you ever wondered what it is like to be fake? I did once. I no longer have to wonder about it. I have the all the answers I need. No, that's not right, it's all the answers that I wanted.

Suzuki closed the file and sighed. It was no wonder that the last person gave up on the case. This kid made no sense. Clicking on the Safari icon, she went straight to the history. Scrolling through, she was suprised at the websites the kid visited. Yahoo! Answers, Wikipedia, Merriam-Webster online dictionary, encycolpedias, all sorts of information sites. And all of the searches were the same- fake, surreal, false, and the strangest one, verisimilitude.
"Verisimilitude is the state or quality of something that exhibits the appearance of truth or reality, right?" Suzuki said, turning to her sensei.
"That's correct. Why do you ask, Suzu-chi?"
"This kid- the one who disapeared eight years ago- he was searching the meaning of it. He was also looking for fake, surreal, and false. Why would someone his age search for such words? I could understand someone my age searching for them, but he wasn't a teenager. He was only nine. What type of nine-year-old knows of such words?" Suzuki asked, frowning at the screen.
"Don't frown Suzu-chi, you'll get wrinkles!"
"In theory, I have to frown 40,000 times to get one wrinkle, Noda-sensei. I'm not worried about it. Now, answer my question!"
"He may have only been nine, but he was like you, a Mahou User."
"What type was he, Sensei? Attraction? Summoning? Phsycic? Speaker? Genius?"
"No, no, no, no, and no. He was exactly like you, a Majutsu User. The power to do anything. A gift I wish I had. You must be glad you have it."
"You're wrong," Suzuki said, looking at her hand. There it was, the mark of those burdened with a dual personality. "Having all the power you want to do anything you want may seem wonderful, but the price is great, whether you use the power or not. Giving up your body is horrible. Sitting back and watching someone totally different than you do things with your body that you wouldn't do... And you have no control of when and where it happens. No Sensei, I would rather have no power at all."
"Sorry, Suzu-chi. It was wrong of me to assume that you liked your power."
"Sensei?"
"What?"
"Do you like your power?"
Noda grabbed her chin and tilted it up so Suzuki was looking into his eyes. "I love my power. I can make you do anything I want."
Suzuki swatted his hand away. "That doesn't work on me and you know it."
"Yet you still blush." Noda said, puting on a smile that would make any other girl swoon.
"I'm a girl, you're a guy who's only five years older than me, not to mention good looking. Of course I blush. Doesn't mean I like you. You're a good friend and a good sensei, but that's all. You know that Noda-sensei." Suzuki said for what seemed like the thousandth time. She turned back to the computer and went to the boy's e-mail. Opening it up, it imediately asked for a password. Glad that the computer was a Mac like her own, she hacked into it and found the password.
"Noda-sensei, look at this," she said, amazed, "His password was 'Spurious'. Noda-sensei, do you seem the same pattern I do? All of these words that seem important to him... They all mean the same things. Verisimilitude is the state or quality of something that exhibits the appearance of truth or reality. Fake is a thing that is not genuine. Surreal is phantasmagorical, something dreamlike, basically something that can't be real. False is incorrect, not according to truth or fact. Spurious means not being what something purports (claims) to be; fake or false. All of these words make me think-"
"Lies," Suzuki and Noda said at the same time, looking at each other. They nodded to each other and resumed their search with new excitement.

So, what do you think? I think it is pretty cruddy, but if it gets me out of my writers block, who cares! =D
Bye-bye!
