Hong Gil Dong

So after my life-changing event called Legend I've been watching Hong Gil Dong, a period drama (yes I think I've gotten the hang of it) a la Robin Hood. It's great fun, wich is good, especially after something so huge and epic like Legend.
Although it has his angsty moments for sure, I'm certainly not complaining. Angst is always good, especially if it's done right.

Robin Hood (Hong Gil Dong) is the son of an asshole and his slave, because his real wife probably didn't want to have sex with the creep, and after he was born the real wife killed his mother, *Bitch* and he began to live as their slave. Daddy dear doesn't consider him a real son because he's his illegitimate child.
It's not his fault you had to hop the maid because your wife thinks you're disgusting, bastard.
Anyway, he grows up to be a bit of a loner, who doesn't know love, friendship or trust.. Poor guy. He is constantly bullied by his whimpy halfbrother, I guess the wife decided to push her feelings aside, and he has a pretty miserable life. But he doesn't wine about it and stays optimistic and that's why I love him.

Check out that gorgeous smile!

The main couple is adorable, although it took me some time getting used to it since my heart was so utterly swavered by Dam Duek and Suinji from Legend. But now, after a few days, I can really appreciate them and yesterday I even screamed once. =]
Also, it helps that we can expect at least a kiss since it's a Hong sisters drama, so we have something to look forward to.
Period drama usually don't have kisses, a hug is compared to a make out session I guess, but since this is not an typical period drama it is allowed. =] Yayy

Am on episode 11 now, and Robin Hood pretends to be dead, since everyone thinks he was killed. He took the blame for something he didn't, in order to protect the village people who were going to get executed if he didn't offer himself. Or something like that. It's hard to follow.
And now he has his own gang and he's going al Robin Hood-ish and steal money and stuff from the rich and give it to the poor.
All incognito ofcourse, I guess if he reveals himsefl to be alive, the whole rampage starts all over again. And what's the point in showing them you're alive if you're going to be hunted upon the minute after.
Now, see, there is a point because there is this certain girl wandering around in that village, broken hearted because he so called died.
You could just tell her and make her promise to keep her mouth shut but NOOOO he has to be all 'I'm doing this to protect her' and 'she's better off without me' blah blah yes we saw her crying her eyes out, she looked very cheerful.

Their love wasn't really meant to be though, she was brought up by this grandpa person but is actually a noblewoman whose parents were killed by Robin Hood's bastard of a father (!!!) in order to, ehm, yeah.. I don't know why. I thought it had something to do with making the freakbrother king instead of his younger brother who was supposed to have the throne.

Aside from that, she seems to be doing alright, even if she doesn't know he's alive. They crossed paths a few times already, but if there's one thing I learned from kdramas,  it is to look 360 degrees around you while walking. You may find you're dead lover who is secretly alive and in hiding to protect you from evil forces. Oh, kdrama..
She has this friend who she calls young master, who is actually the past king's son and is supposed to be on the throne right now instead of his insane freakbrother, and he is planning coups and stuff like that with a very creepy lady with too much red lipstick who I don't really trust. I do kind of like him, maybe because I like the actor portaying the role, (scroll down a few inches) it's our diva from You're Beautiful. Looking a lot better in here actually, not so anorexic and the long hair kind of suits him. In a very weird way. He's all dark and angsty, talking about the past and his doom for 99 % of the time, not to mention they put eyeliner on him, so I just call him Emo Prince.
So aside from that, I really like him. I do wonder if he has the guts to be king, he's not even sure what's right and what's wrong, and if he looks like he's gonna have a nervous breakdown everytime because of that, I don't know if you should let him rule a country.

Watch me cry and dwell in my emo-ness T-T

And now Emo Prince knows Robin Hood is alive, but conceils it from Main Girl. For one, because he and Robin Hood are sworn enemies.. (Ofcouuuurse..) and Two, because Emo Prince has fallen for her lively and upbeat character and he now luuuurves her. (Surpise surprise)

Oh, and there is also the secondary girl, who is this creepy noble lady who wants to have a career as a hooker and likes to kill birds.
Ah.

Hong sisters, I really adore your work, but there are times that I think your imagination could use some boundries.

asian drama, kdrama
