SortOfWeekly Roundup

Oct 22, 2009 18:36

Because I've got time, you can have this in the middle of the week. On the adminly stuff I've cleaned up the profile a bit so that it's more informative and generally slightly more helpful, while delineating the rule (singular) we've laid out for posting in this community. You'll also note a link to the lovely weekly_vocaloid who have very kindly offered to affiliate with us which basically means my options for stealthy translation stealing now include them as well as dosetsu.

It, er. It also includes a bio on me!... and possibly the other mods when I kick them into it. It occured to me that none of us had actually said hello or bothered to explain our preferences which is fine when it was a five-person comm but is not quite adequate when we are at fifty members many of whom are completely unknown to me (WHAT) and may not know the criteria by which I personally choose the music that gets linked in my posts. So... hello. I'm Stelas. I come bearing music, if you like.

Still on the cards: Toy Box, MMD. Two songs above the cut today, I think. THERE'S A GUMI SONG ABOVE THE CUT, GUYS, WHAT THE HELL.

(Megu Megu Fire Endless Night, Fandub (NicoChorus x 6), Eurobeat Rock, HOT-BLOODED MANLY MOTTO MOTTO)
W-... wow. I realise I often suck at giving praise, but there's honestly nothing I can say to this absolutely bombastic redub of one of Gumi's signature songs, covered with wailing guitar and fantastic mixing and a set of six singers putting their absolute all into the performance completely JAM Project-style. Whereas most nicochoruses tend to squash at least half the voices, this is perfectly set and an absolute treat. If you don't crack an enormous grin you're just not human, okay.

(Dream And Fuzz?, Miku, Rock)
The maker of Puzzle and Bright World is back with another fantastic track. A heavier tune than the recent pair, this track's a bit harsher and a bit more thrashy but no less pleasant on the ears and, as ever, the tuning is lovely and the guitars spot on.

(Blue Flower, Miku, Zzzzzlow Pop)
So I... guess this is supposed to be the latest and greatest from Mr. Cendrillon. I wish I could agree, or disagree, or voice any opinion at all. Unfortunately, the starting half of this song drags on so much that by the time I get halfway zzzz...

(I Found Out My Boyfriend Has a Velcro Wallet, Miku, Spanish Guitar With Velcro Percussion I Kid You Not, BARI BARI END)
Oh. Oh Kaito. Included just because it's goddamn hilarious, this is a stirring and angst-laden lament from a Miku close to despair that, in the middle of a posh restaurant, the blue-scarfed moron displays how suave he is by pulling out a velcro wallet. The music fits the video and the setting wonderfully, and the velcro and snare percussion is god damn perfect.

(Message, Miku, Soft Rock)
That is in fact Miku in the preview image and not a crossdressing Kaito - I know, I'm as surprised as you are, but at least she heralds this gorgeous piano-and-bells-and-soft-rock track. There's a certain vibe to this tune that makes it feel like it should have come out at Christmas, as the general sound would be more appropriate then... still, it's a lovely listen either way.

(Innocent Blue, Miku, Trancey Pop)
An almost atmospheric track, this is very close to being melodic trance if it's weren't for the, y'know, song in there somewhere. Falling away into soft tinkling beats then strong chorus, it's a very pleasant listen though perhaps a bit too rough around the edges. Sounds kind of like Miku needs a cough drop. --ooh, there's violins back there. Okay, it can pass.

(lost, Miku, Rock, Jesus Christ My Eardrums)
Erg. Okay, okay. It's Miku doing poppy rock. It's EXIT TUNES + Supernova. It's freaking 164. By rights, I should be slavering over this so hard it needs a lifejacket, but I can't - following the trend that begun with 1st Music, the Miku is just too goddamn high for me. I can't deny the song's good, fantastic guitars and excellent production. But it really needs Miku dropped by about an octave and maybe supplied with a mute button.

(Lonely Runner, Kaito + Len, Angsty Pop)
Look, I've got to get the male quota up somehow. If it means an angst-tastic pop duet then what the hell, I'll sell my soul. Len and Kaito duet in some kind of reverse Magnet; back-to-back and tales of their terrible woe are the order of the day. It doesn't help when Len's so dramatically tuned that he sounds like some evil cross of Miku and Luka, and I have to admit the song is not exactly my thing, but it's listenable enough to and it's kind of a novelty to hear Kaito sounding somewhat acceptable.

(Sky's Desire, Miku + Rin, SYNTH POWER CHORD Emo)
So we'll make right up for it with ... yet another angst-tastic duet! Only this one's high-paced and full of power chords and synths and rising and falling notes, as if you took Lonely Runner and stuck it in an Initial D car for a couple of laps. Definitely better than Runner to my ears, but I still can't say I was terribly impressed.

(Symphonic Drive - DIVA Edit -, Miku, What the hell do you think)
Guys. Guys. I credit you with intelligence, okay? So when you ask me what genre this song is, whether it might feature synth beats and a pulsing soundtrack reminiscent of every DDR song ever, I'm just going to point you to the fact that the title contains the words 'Symphonic' and 'Drive' and the fact it is an 'Edit involving a pretentious title' and let you figure it out from there, okay?

vocaloid: kagamine len, who?, vocaloid: kaito, vocaloid: gumi, vocaloid: hatsune miku, clearly this post does not exist, p: kuwagata, vocaloid: kagamine rin, announcement, linkdump
