I'm late! I have an excuse! That excuse is entirely the fault of Uta no Prince-sama and the sudden slew of LOVE1000% memes and MMD routines all going up at once. I do not think I have laughed and cried so hard in some time. I will make up for it... by getting the tags up to date tomorrow. (gasp!)
News:
- Vocaloid 3 is now out! Stay tuned for slews of tracks in the next few weeks.

Miku English and
Kaito Append!

Love Waits for Evening - but if you want to be really blown away, check out the VY1V3 version of
Cyber Thunder Slider (Cider? Never did figure that out...) or Mitchie M's remix of Gurren Lagann's
Sorairo Days.

初音ミクオリジナル曲 「Breath of mechanical」Breath of Mechanical (JimmyThumb, Miku, Pop)
Do I really need to say anything here? It's JimmyThumb, one of the grand-daddies of the entire fandom, with a brand new Miku track. More of a chillout than a straight-out pop song, it's a gorgeous little listen that's perfect for drifting off to that crescendos to a gorgeous ending.
The Vocaloids Held a Session about Vocalonation's Song Compilation (GYARI, Ensemble, Jazz)
Well, this was kind of inevitable. GYARI finally puts up the full video for the closing track of the Vocalonation CD, and there was absolutely no way on this earth I wasn't going to link it right up there at the top. As is his usual style, an initial burst of talkloid video precedes a long mix of jazz covers and remixes of the songs on the CD, interspersed with gorgeous solos and jokes and references. Watch out for possibly the classiest version of Nyanyanyaetc. you've ever heard.
Scorching power from a vintage producer, this is a great tour de force for the week from Luka, who I'm still glad to see any sign of amidst her recent flagging. She's smooth and slick here, and backed up by a tremendously energetic track that'll have your head nodding in an instant right before it breaks down into a roaring guitar solo and launches right into the traditional range of emo crescendos and falls
So who remembers a gorgeously animated video about cats and their roly-poly attempts to avert world war? If you remember the music from that you'll know what you're in for here; a soft and gentle heartwarming bit of light pop/rock, endlessly catchy if a little low-key, about one of the more iconic meals from Japan. The real draw here is the video it's presented alongside, which is a fabulous piece of animation that's utterly charming and impossible to dislike.
Nicovideo, why you gotta let me down like this? I simply cannot believe that this absolutely delightful track didn't make it to number 1 for at least part of the week. Suketch - a producer we haven't seen in over a year and most notable for that little song about Sweet Devils, or the one about family planning - comes out of goddamn nowhere with a heartwarming orchestral pop number with a deeply pretty video and a jaunty Miku tuned to perfection, topped off with some fantastic snatches of violin to sweeten the deal.
Liar Betty (Polyphonic Branch, Rin, Ham Angst Rock)
A fantastic performance from the twins here - this is practically a play all in itself with the way it showboats so many emo touches - from distraught rapid-fire piano scales and an operatic chorus wailed against the rest of the track, right through to the Alice-in-Wonderland dancing woodwind-and-snare marches. Never quite over the top, this ends up being quite a fun and furious track that isn't afraid to blow your socks off with some crazy instrumentation.
The Bird That Crosses The Stars (Nem, Len, Ethnic Pop?)
A bit of a traditionalist one here? Or perhaps an orchestral? It's hard to pick out which of the two it's more like. Certainly the melody is fully the latter, with strings and soft acoustic guitar and some wonderful piano all through the thing; some of the lifts and lulls are absolutely gorgeous. Through it all, Len croons out a track that seems very traditional and ethnic in nature; it might just be the music framing it, but I can't shake the feeling. Either way, he sounds excellent, and it's a great haunting song.
A Goodnight Within A Goodnight (powapowa, Miku, Rock)
This track has a brilliant melody, in as much as it bounces all over the place and is wonderfully atonal in the best of ways, jumping around with strange notes and chords and scratchy, staccato beats. Miku's super-clear here, and stands out wonderfully amidst all the weirdness. Watch out for possibly the strangest Requisite Quiet Section you've ever heard outside of a cosMo song, only for a great crescendo right afterwards.
It's shigotoshite, using two Meikos in tandem for some of the finest Meiko crooning around. You pretty much owe it to yourself to click this link, is what I'm saying.
Whoo goes back to his roots, swapping the clear and forefront Miku in some of his more recent tracks for a very traditional band track, full of snares and gentle guitars. In the process, he puts Miku far at the back, softly-softly crooning so low it almost mixes straight into the music. I tend to dislike that sort of tuning, but whoo has always managed to pull it off with some seriously delightful melodies, and this is no different.
Tied Hands (otetsu, Gakupo, Rock)
Cripes; words can't describe just how much justice otetsu's done Gakupo here. I don't think I've ever heard him this good and vibrant, and the track's an excellently sharp and powerful rock number with jumping, dancing piano in the back rounding it out beautifully. I long for an extended version of this; just under two minutes really isn't enough time at all.
3-A (kiichi, Len, Electrorock?)
Len Append sounds simply amazing in this rock track that feels like it's drawing a lot of other influences, most obviously dance and techno but also a bit of ethnic style as well. The video's dark and disruptive, much like the throbbing bass of the track proper and the grungy bridge section in specific that I'm sure leaps off to theremin music for a while; it's all balanced out nicely by Len's crisp voice and the neat touches all through the melody line.
Mmm... I'm not sure what I think of papiyon's latest, exactly. It's not bad, but at the same time nothing made me exceptionally fond of it beyond the video, which is up to the standards you'd expect for this producer's works. I dunno, the Miku's a bit too low and sparse, maybe, with a tendency to get seriously wonky during the choruses? There's no way it won't do well, already up to 10k hits, so check it out and see what you think about it.
Dream Crow's Shadow (kous, Miku, Rock)
I might have been a little spoilt by Camellia Princess further down the post, which is a track very much to my interests and preferences; it means that when kous goes a bit darker again, I'm just automatically going to compare it back to that one. Dream Crow's Shadow is certainly nowhere near the aforementioned hit, heavier and more traditional a kous piece; Miku's good but a little fuzzed, though as ever for a kous track the music is absolutely top-notch.
歌愛ユキ - Behind My Daisy【☆】Behind My Daisy (kagome, Yuki, Ambient Rock?)
Bus Stop Chicane (kagome, Kiyoteru, Rock)
Undisputed master of the underdogs, kagome takes time out from mentoring and arranging almost every new producer under the sun to instead throw out a Yuki track and a Sensei track. As you might expect from kagome's style, they're both very striking; Yuki's is a lilting song entirely in english, backed by a floating rising crescendo of electronic and synths and some rock over the top, while Kiyoteru's is a more traditional rock affair with a great lead-in and an even greater sensei voice.
GTK!? (takamatt, Kiyoteru, Rock / Rap)
The second Kiyoteru song this update is a little bit fabulous. Mostly in English, it's very, very silly, but interspersed with some absolutely fantastic solos from either scorching guitars or else a crooning rapper Sensei who appears to have manifested a scottish accent for the duration of his vocal solo. It's not just me, right? That's definitely a scots accent when he's busy going 'What's going on around us?', isn't it? Anyway, the title stands for Great Teacher Kiyoteru which should really be the last straw for you to go watch this.
Absolunote (Lemm, Miku, Ambient Electronica)
I've neeeever really been a fan of this kind of genre, so I do link this with the reservation it won't be for everyone. The track itself isn't bad at all, if you like that sort of thing - prone to skipping between styles at a moment's notice, it has some truly awesome moments and transitions, like the full orchestral part suddenly giving way to break beats and on to drastic atonal piano at a breakneck pace, but may be too chaotic for most listeners. Miku is almost a non-entity, fading too easily into the background and mostly acting in the name of emphasis and ambiance.
【オリジナル曲】運命だから…again and againIt's Fate, So... Again And Again (panpan, Ensemble, kyaaaaaaa)
It's so manly.
【kous】椿姫 (sasakure.UK Falling Remix)【Music Video】Camellia Princess (sasakure.UK Falling Remix) (kous / sasakure, Miku, Electropop)
Sasakure takes his hand to one of kous' more recent and super-adorable pop songs in this remix, and it's easy to see why it's gained no small number of views over the last week. What was already a delightful little song has become even moreso, with a deeply catchy beat and gentle bell tones all over the place, backed up by some great chiptune grumbling on the bass and a whole ton of little sasakure touches. As if that all weren't enough, brother puts out a fantastic video to top it all off.
Other/MMD:
(EZFG, MMDPV: Sekken, Teto)
Not to be outdone by VY1, Teto also offers up a version of this rollicking fast and energetic track. When I first read the track title on the video I actually had high hopes - this is a song I can see doing very well in Utau hands, given the fuzzed nature of the lyrics and the rapid strong notes. Unfortunately... well, Teto can't quite keep up with the fastest sections, alas, but it's still very good. Sekken is an excellent MMDer, and the video's hard to beat, especially going into the second half.
Panda Hero (hachi...?, DivaPV: kukkuroo, Miku + Miku)
A... very special Diva Edit Mode PV of a very... special version of Panda Hero. Way off normal base, you'll probably either love it or hate it, but I honestly cannot say I have ever seen a more impressively timed and effected Diva video.
Maji LOVE 1000% (MMDPV: hzeo, Ensemble, k-kyaaaaa...!)
If you've seen Uta no Prince you are probably stumbling over yourself to click this link; those of you who haven't experienced the most super-sparkly, Norio Wakamoto-infested otome anime this side of... um... that samurai vampires one, well, you'll only get half the joke. It's still super fabulous, though.
Eden (ATOLS, PV: masataka, Miku)
This PV, unveiled at the NYC Comic Con this last weekend, is... well... bugfuck crazy, let's say. Atols' music is very hit and miss and might not be to anyone's tastes, firmly in crazy arrhythmic mode as it is, but this is probably worth watching for sheer verve if nothing else, and Dr. Masataka gets his chops well and truly into making a crazy video to match.
【Perfume】love the world【MMDモーショントレース】Love The World (Perfume, MMDPV: TEL5210, Gumi + Ha...ku? + Enoch)
This is what MMD is all about: Enoch, Gumi and a misshappen freak of nature team up to dance adorable Perfume dances. It's just like the early days, it brings a tear to my poor jaded eye.
Completely off-topic but fabulous:
エルシャダイでキャサリンのプチ修羅場Unfortunately, I don't know what show this El Shaddai parody is lampooning or drawing its lines from - what I do know is that the range of expressions and the quality of animation on show is nothing short of breathtaking. As, indeed, is Lucifel in eyeliner.
