Mini-Update

Aug 26, 2011 21:25

- The next full roundup will be this weekend or monday, for several reasons: for one, I've just come off two sixteen hour working days and I'm knackered and I have Deus Ex: Human Revolution sitting next to me. For two, it's a bank holiday so I'll have plenty of time to catch up... ... right in time for Miku's birthday post on the 31st. (For three ( Read more... )

I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO ADD that Terrorist (I think that's what it translates to?) by niki got a PV. It's one of niki's songs that they only posted in Piapro so idk if anyone else has heard it.

... THIS POST IS DEPRESSINGLY EMPTY.

I have a list of some of my favorite Lily songs here actually, most of which stretch back to her release hhhh if anyone wants to bother looking.

For those who can't bear listening to Lily's voice (weh weh) Guriri did an awesome cover of Prototype and Kushi covered FLARE.

For what it's worth: Piapro just announced the results of Crypton's contest to design an "American" costume for Miku. I'm not the least surprised that they went with an American variation of the cute-cheerleader outfit, but it's still an interesting and cute take on the idea -- and I'm curious as to where they'll go with it.

Here's the original announcement on the Piapro blog.

What amuses me is that the artist who won the contest apparently does not yet seem to know that he won it -- I wonder if they're busy trying to get in touch with him.

Not... sure if want. Did they mention what it was for? I'm assuming we're not looking at box art here, since they've already had the US adverts running for Toyota.

What I think might happen is that at the next big Miku live event in Japan, she's going to show up in that outfit and say something like "Check it out, I got this when I was over in the U.S.!"

I originally shied away from posting any of my own work here, because it was mostly covers -- but I think I've stepped up my game... Presenting my first Piapro entry, and second original Vocaloid song.

Dang, that's actually some really solid english coding; some of the pronounciation's spot on. Solid work. I've never actually used the Vocaloid engine to much of an extent, though I've got a copy lying around here - how tough was it to get some of that working in English?

It does take a good deal of fine-tuning. Sometimes one has to mess around with the notes at the shortest length the program allows (64th note triplet); I find myself fiddling a lot with the Velocity setting in hopes that it'll make a particular syllable sound better, which it sometimes does... although I'm still not sure how.

Probably the main things I've discovered are that you can use the Dynamics and openness settings to cut off open vowels at what's supposed to be the end of a word; that F sounds frequently work better than S sounds to get a "th" noise (I routinely spell 'nothing' as '[na]-[fe]-[n]' because it's less harsh); and that it's almost impossible to get Miku to pronounce Rs at the end of words properly -- really, the only thing you can do is play it up as a vaguely British accent where those Rs are just naturally dropped ( ... )

That's all pretty interesting. I've thought about having a bit more of a play with the software, but I'm honestly terrible at creative stuff - I'm better at the analytical end of things. Even so, I might have to grab a voicebank for 3 to play around with it, even if only via the mini client rather than the full one.
