MMD CUP 7TH
I'd been holding off on this video specifically to wait for the Scatman re-enactment from Reimu and Rin, but unfortunately it appears to have disappeared. Anyway, what a Cup, holy hell. MMD 6th Cup didn't have a lot of immediate impact, as a lot of the humour and style was bound up within talkloid videos or lengthy skits; no such worries here, as we're faced with a slew of thumping music videos and a staggering amount of fight scenes. Certain themes keep coming through; most notably there's a large number of 'self-celebratory' MMD videos, combined with a whole bunch about Miku up and dying on people.
The themes were 魔 (magic, demons, etc), 真 (truths, absolutes), 間 (a space or room), ピタゴラ的装置 (a Rube Goldberg machine), 縄文時代 (the Jomon age), or 'M'. As you might expect, a majority of people went for that last one. Turns out it's not really that hard to fulfil when your main character's named Miku...
Low-quality can mulch some of these videos; if you're having trouble loading them on Nicovideo then don't forget about Polsy's player or Nicoviewer. Alternatively, MMD Cup tends to get mirrored very fast; searching the title on youtube will typically provide results. If I've missed your favorite - which is likely, I had to prune my list so much - feel free to pipe up.

With a staggering 300k views just over the course of the weekend, Touhou have run away with the Cup with this fantastic video for a fantastic song. Junky's tracks have always been joyful and full of energetic guitars and his latest non-vocaloid song lives up to his pedigree; combine with a great choreography and two well-produced Touhou models and mix to serve. I've had this on repeat for a stupidly long time.

It's really no surprise that ussy's right up there amongst the best videos of the MMD Cup. He's one of the most prolific effects and background designers for the problem, and huge numbers of videos this cup have his name in the credits somewhere for his work. It's a bit of a shame that Luka can't show up for her own song, but this is one staggeringly shiny version with the latest in MME effects.

No mess, no fuss: a straight-laced and very solid dance routine for wowaka's hit. The camera work's probably the best part of this video, but it makes good use of MMD's space and ability to switch between stages on top of that.

Kaito belts out a substantially listenable version of what is many people's favorite bit of Vocaloid rock about a wife who just has to demonstrate her love via fake blood and animal props, and along with it comes a really, really cute video that's impossible to dislike.

LAT MODELS AS FAR AS THE EYE CAN SEE. Initial grar about them all looking the damn same aside, I have to admit this is a pretty delightful video. It's really hard to hate anything that involves Melancholic, and the choreography is very solid when it gets going.

I love Techno Break, okay. I think it's a neat little song with a hilarious dance routine, and this video really makes the best of it with some great little touches and slapstick here and there, together with the very finest selection in Len models and some extra special guests. If Gakupo's set alone doesn't get you grinning, I don't know what to tell you. You might just not feel joy.

I think this is the video that's finally established it for me: I really like the Luka CMell model, and I think it's pretty much the only viable Luka model for really HD work right now. There's still a kind of weird shape to the body, but it looks a damn sight better than any alternatives. Here she croons through a song to try to help Defoko forget that Gakupo is two-timing on her with Rin.
... yeah that sentence didn't make a whole lot of sense to me, either.

The producer's name, and the subtitle for the video, both translate to 'Stripping!', which will give you a fair idea of the point of the video. A heavily effected Miku slams through a bunch of MMD effects and a bunch of outfits, and it would all be very impressive if it weren't set to goddamn WAVEFILE. I'm sick of WAVEFILE, guys, I've heard it approximately a hundred times over the last month. Every single video in the Camerawork Cup used it, and then ever more this MMD Cup. Enough with WAVEFILE! Please! I'm begging you! I will even accept Love and Joy, this is how bad it's gotten!

Touhou Cross isn't the only one to use the rather famous bit of Squaresoft music, which made for some slightly confusing times when the video started and I wasn't wholly paying attention. The next up in the line of 'yeaaah MMD' videos, the execution is less fancy but more action-packed; look out for the Vocaloid section for some great choreography.

Better known as 'the producer of that one El Shaddai video', mozutani's entry this cup is another in the cloud of 'fuck yeah MMD' celebratory videos, and possibly the most outright shiny one. Something feels a little lacking in execution... but it's still highly impressive.

This is pretty twisted, all told. As I've already mentioned there's a whole ton of videos where Miku dies or otherwise disappears, but this is by far the more unsettling of the lot as the creepy atonal atmosphere builds. And then Boromir is given a major speaking part and he stares at the camera and oh god I just can't take it any longer.

There were quite a few different Touhou fight videos this Cup, as there usually are whenever people get an opportunity to show off gratuitous particle effects. None of them really stood out for me as much as this one, though, which combines some great scenery with smooth animation and some fun stunts, while still keeping the requisite amount of bullets every fucking where.

By the same token, there's been a lot of different fighting videos this MMD Cup; for my money, this would be the best one. A slew of producers team up to parody Rhythm Zone's particular brand of wacky minigame. The games themselves can adequately said to be Wario Ware but entirely based on sound cues; here they've been either reproduced or else twisted into something a little bit silly.

Girl's Secret Diary (MMDPV: D-2, Cast: Touhou, Action)
There were quite a few different Touhou fight videos this Cup, as there usually are whenever people get an opportunity to show off gratuitous particle effects. None of them really stood out for me as much as this one, though, which combines some great scenery with smooth animation and some fun stunts, while still keeping the requisite amount of bullets every fucking where.

By the same token, there's been a lot of different fighting videos this MMD Cup; for my money, this would be the best one. The producer isn't the most technically proficient, and you'll see a lot of strange clipping on models or rough animation, but he's got a great knack for dramatics and special moves and it really shines through.

Taken from an extremely tongue-in-cheek series of videos about Japanese traditions and customs, this is a very strangely illustrated and animated version of one of their more famous episodes. Though it's a talkloid video to an extent, the sound is translated for you. Because otherwise how else would you learn about glorious Japanese ways?

This entire video is basically the well-animated setup for a single piece of slapstick, but it comes so out of left field and so suddenly that I couldn't help but laugh. I would still love to know where the hell these guys come from - are they Nico originals?

Given that generally speaking adherence to the themes of the MMD Cup is treated as a guideline rather than a rule, it's nice to see one video making sure it sticks as closely to the written themes as possible.
I will tag this once my mind fully wraps itself around however many will be required.
