(yeah, i'm sorry, i couldn't think of a better title)
So, most of us know that VOCALOID is the cool thing in the music world right now, with albums topping on mainstream charts. Because of its current popularity, the producers behind the songs are getting commissioned to write songs for commercial releases. Wao!
Since you guys probably already know stuff about Ps, I'm include little tidbits about the collaborating artists! I hope this isn't too off-topic from the subject of singing robots. But I like to stalk producers up the wazoo D;
Chata x FullkawaP
Chata is originally a Doujin singer (considered to be one of the "3 Queens of Doujin Music", alongside Shimotsuki Haruka and Katakiri Rekka, and interestingly, both of them have sung VOCALOID songs too), known for her soft, whisper-y voice. She gained mainstream fame after singing the ending theme of the CLANNAD TV series, "Dango Daikazoku". Even though she now releases commercial works, Chata still actively participates in the Doujin scene.
This past May,
Chata released Nanairo under TEAM Entertainment, which was a collaboration album with popular VOCALOID producers. The P list is nothing to joke about, including top-tier songwriters such as OSTER project, FullkawaP, LamazeP, cosMo@BousouP, DeadballP, sasakure.UK, and more. All of the songs retain the producer's own "sound", and you could pretty much tell who wrote what without looking at the credits (but Chata wrote all of the lyrics).
Sample: Fullkawa Honpo feat. Chata - Teikan
This was the one song on the album that immediately grabbed my attention, despite it being Fullkawa's usual fare of ambient guitar music. Everything about it, especially the arrangement, fit Chata's voice perfectly. It's just so....relaxing and heartwarming to listen to. Hearing the song also made me realize, Chatarin plz go sing "Alice". A self-cover version would be nice too, Fullkawa~ ♥
HIMEKA x minato (RyuuseiP)
HIMEKA's career is much like most internet singers, originally posting covers of Anime songs on YouTube before winning a competition and getting signed to a major label. She has a powerful and emotional voice, as heard in her debut song "Asu he no Kizuna" (served as the opening theme to the Valkyrie Chronicles anime). All of HIMEKA's singles so far have had tie-ups with well-known anime series.
As seen in her blog, HIMEKA is a VOCALOID fan. Sony Music went to go ask minato if he could write a song for her, and he obliged, coming up with an uptempo, "anisong-like" piece.
Sample: minato feat. HIMEKA - Winding Road
"Winding Road" is the coupling track on HIMEKA's 3rd single, "Mirai he" (ending theme to Senkou no Nightraid), and it matches her voice quite well. The exciting pace of the song really showcases the strength of her vocals. I think it would serve as a great opening theme for an anime series. /o/
Nakagawa Shouko
Nakagawa Shouko is a well-known celebrity in the Japanese media. A self-proclaimed "otaku", Nakagawa has done everything from being a gravure model, a voice actor, an illustrator, and an actriess. However, it is her career as a singer that is the reason for her popularity. Quite a few of her songs have had tie-ups to popular anime, such as Fullmetal Alchemist, Pokemon, and Gurren Lagann.
Nakagawa seems to be a fan of VOCALOID as well, drawing several illustrations of Miku on her blog. For her 8th single, Namida no Tane, Egao no Hana (ending theme to the 2nd Gurren Lagann movie), one of the coupling songs was produced by ryo (obviously, of supercell fame).
Sample: ryo feat. Nakagawa Shouko - Gozen Rokuji
Gozen Rokuji is an upbeat pop-rock song, which is ryo's specialty. I don't know about you, but his signature "band-sound" is pretty obvious. If that doesn't help, the overly girly lyrics should do it. The song itself is catchy, with Nakagawa's energetic vocals livening up the mood.
Next installment (which will be probably done next year, hurr):
doriko x Momoi Halko, xRukix
cosMo@BousouP x MOSIAC.WAV
sasakure.UK x Shimizu Ai
