Right, let's go. Synopses might be a little faster than usual as it's Tuesday and I'd rather get this up as fast as possible. On the other hand, folding Monday and Tuesday's videos into this post may mean one on Sunday in a timely fashion, which would probably be a first for the last two months. Le gasp.
This update is split into two: new music, and new PVs. To make up for last week, the big songs this week are on the softer side, with not much in the way of big deep thrashy (aside from, er, some notable exceptions which may make me a very bad person) and rather a lot of calming ambience.
Music roughly ordered by how much I liked it
(Ephemeral Moon's Bloom (natsu), VanaN'Ice (Gakupo + Kaito + Len), fffffffffffffffffffffff--)
I. I just don't even. Fandom's over, guys, we can go home. Possibly one of the videos that makes me a bad person this week, this is absolutely ~fabulous~ as a blindfolded Len, Kaito and Gakupo rock it out to traditional Japanese stylin's and a very high class PV. If I'm honest they don't always work terribly well together and are a tad out of tone with each other but I'm prepared to forgive it for how totally amazing this is.
(Ronde of Possible World (millstones), Miku, Orchestral Pop)
You may have emitted a squeal of joy at the sight of that PV name - I know I sure did. This is an absolutely fantastic soft pop track led by some great plunking of ivories and a drum line I really enjoyed, full of light rasps and soft hangs.
(Discommunication (fatman), Luka, Orchestral Pop)
Fantastic Luka voice, gorgeous piano, soft violin and lovely snares. Absolutely hooked from first listen - and if you liked Ronde of Possible World be absolutely sure to check this video out too. We'll call this string of piano/violin/drums songs 'Orchestral' rather than P+D, shall we? It looks nicer to type, at the very least...
(Aurora (binyu), Miku, Pop)
An absolutely adorable pop song in the traditional Romantic-Pop-Starduster singing robots style. Utterly cliche, perhaps, but this gentle track's utterly listenable to with a delightful Miku voice accompanying.
ZOU+(ZOU+ (AVTechNO), Miku, Techno Pop)
AVTechNO produces fine work, and this soft pop song with a dirty technoish backline is no exception. The combination of the two, together with the odd atonal burst of static, makes for a seriously mysterious toe-tapper. Good job.
【初音ミク】rururu.m.a.m.a【オリジナル】PV(rururu.m.a.m.a (kous), Miku, Pop, PV)
Kous doing upbeat pop...? You'd be forgiven for being confused, but yes, there it is. This PV'd track doesn't have the best Miku voice around but is a really neat listen if only for it's ability to swing wildly between styles, and a backbeat that swings wildly between styles from jpop to strangely meditteranean and back again.
(Vocaloid Song (pinnochio), Miku, Pop Rock)
God, I want to translate that as Brokeloid really badly. Storming it's way up the charts, this has received not a little acclaim, but I can't seem to get into it. A perfectly servicable pop/rock track with a lot of throwbacks to the classic Vocaloid songs, I think the thing that puts me off is the lyrics often getting lost amongst noise.
(Sing For The Moment (fatman), Luka, Orchestral Pop)
On a roll, fatman's second video is a slower and more thoughtful take than the first, concentrating more on the pianos and violins in a gentle melody. As such, it didn't grab me as much as Discommunication did; either way, it's yet another video to absolutely listen to if you're enjoying the theme this week. Also, :(.
A full-on trance track from river. Don't expect much from the singing robots here - it's 2:14 or so before lyrics even come into the equation and they're purely there to add to ambient stylin's of this track, perfect for some chillout ambience.
(Memory Standby (powapowa), Luka, Soft Pop)
Unless anyone can think of a better reading for 'By Stay', and my english dictionary says it's an archaic form of standby, so who am I to argue? Directly from the tear school of 'less is better', this track's all about hanging notes and distinct noises to make up the melody of the whole. It's really quite nice, though not on par with those videos higher up the update.
Christ, what a combo-breaker this is. This is mostly included just because it's so off the wall and unusual for the fandom; a dirty house track with a crazy-80s style video and a whole lot of synthetica. It's definitely an acquired taste, but gosh it's stylish and definitely pulled off with courage and balls.
Technically speaking, this is a perfectly fine rock track in the grand style of such grand old favorites as Palette. ... unfortunately, at this point, I can barely tell the difference between them and one soft-rock track done in a certain way is becoming nigh-on indistinguishable to the next. Still, as songblobs go you could do much worse.
(Little Wings (Caz), Miku, Rock)
A solid rock track with some great guitars. Nothing specific here, but I do find it eminently listenable.
(If It's You (buriru), Rin, Slow Swing)
Yes, you read that right. Swing. Rin's voice is perhaps a bit squeaky when there's not much in the way of loud instruments to cover up her worse notes, but this is worth listening to just for the unique factor of a singing robot doing a sort of 1940s Big Band ... thing. Honestly I'm not sure what genre this is, exactly - my mind can identify songs like it (usually taken from 1960-1970 UK radio shows) but I can't put a name to it. Anyone?
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
PVs and MMDs in no particular order
Well, how could I not? Just in case you wanted to baaaaaw all over again, here's a freshened up and considerably shiny new video of the old classic.
【初音ミク】13’s MeMory【手描きPV】(13's MeMory (saiB), Miku, Rock, PV)
Stompy, thrashy, music to angst to until the melodic chorus kicks in. Though this PV is cut off short, it's pretty gorgeous and fits very well.
(Cirno's Perfect Math Class, Miku, Pop/Silly, MMD)
Included solely because oh man check out those MMD models. Ripped directly from or at least heavily inspired by Project Diva, they're possibly my favorite versions, though original MMD ones come close. I really should make that MMD post sometime. 4th Cup is coming up...
A terrific blast through some of the top-watched Nico videos and memes of 2009, rendered in Vocaloid form with a highly amusing video taking sideswipes at everything it can. How many can you name?
Just in case Hello Planet wasn't enough Crouching Pop Music Hidden Baawwww for you, here's a PV of an older IOSYS track that's sitting on the top 100 in a shiny and well-deserved gold border right now.
Version MMD(Renai Circulation, Petite Miku + Petite Rin + Zatsune Miku Under A Fake Name, MMD)
A ridiculously cute video featuring the current Nicovideo MMD Dance In Vogue, which means you'll see a million versions of this if you take a wander through the MikuMikuDance tag. Sadly, this is a 'fake' version of Renai Circulation as far as I know, taken from a fanmade video that simply drags out the TV Size version of the Bakemonogatari OP a few times.
Short.ver(Nekomimi Switch, Miku, Ridiculously Cheesy Pop)
FANTASTIC LATECOMER! If you haven't already encountered Nekomimi Switch somehow, you probably should go check a few posts down where we link it mercilessly. If you have, go watch this ridiculously moe and very well-made super-HD video. Like, right now.
