Weekly Roundup

Nov 22, 2009 23:14

I'm tired, I've been working all day, and I'm breaking in a new pair of headphones. If I descend into monosyllabic 'ugh's and incomprehensible noises as part of the commentary, well, it'll be just like normal. If you haven't already we strongly suggest you check out and post to the meme so we can stalk your asses.

Moontube commentary: what's with the 50 million versions of 1925 all of a sudden? Len version, Haku version, Gumi version, I don't get it. Why is Bad Apple in positions 1, 2 and 3?! Today's offerings include a bunch of stuff but mostly Imitation Black 2 and a poppy happy threesome from samfree, and yet more stonking Gumi tracks in her meteoric rise to stardom, or at least people paying attention to her. An astoundingly low Miku Quotient this week, as most of her songs were just too slow and ponderous.

Extra:
- oftendistracted: hey, can you figure out anything about this title?
- darknightrain: ... not loading. I think it's shunning me because I have a Britney Spears video in another tab

(Fate: Rebirth, Len + Kaito + Gakupo, Goth Rock)
Well, I guess this has to come first. Also known as Imitation Black 2, if you couldn't tell from the thumbnail, this is an absolutely top-notch video accompanied by a similarly brilliant song from natsu. It's a must-watch, frankly, and easily the best this update.

(Prism Heart, Miku, Pop)
Samfree's first, and the one I like most. Miku delivers an extremely cutesy, synthy, kind of dancey, pianoy pop track. High production values, of course, and a lovely clean sound to it.

(AGAINST, Gumi, Just Slightly Thrash Metal, MMD)
A stonking GUMI track from buzzG, this thrashy angry emo rock song is paired with a neat and pretty effect-filled MMD video. Definitely different to Gumi's usual fare but a fine production.

(Catastrophe, Miku + Luka, Pop)
We've had Imitation Black 2, how about... Magnet 2? That's the vibe I get from this europop track which predominantly features very pretty artwork of Miku and Luka singing over each other in a thumping beat poppish style and a rocking guitar solo.

『siGrE』ver.KAITO・MEIKO【PV付】

(siGrE ver. Kaito/Meiko, Kaito + Meiko, Traditional Rock?)
A Kaito and Meiko version of a reasonable classic. While the original was solid in it's own right this version is amazing if only for Meiko's voice and tuning, which is absolutely fantastic. If you haven't heard this song before, there's little better place to start than this version.

(Fantastic, Luka, Dancey Trancey Pop)
As adorable as it is hilarious, this is a delightfully smooth and boppy Luka track from monologue that'll have you alternately tapping your foot at the excellent euroesque-beat and laughing your head off at the fantastic Engrish lyrics.

(7/8, Luka, Angsty Pop)
I like to think that the title means Luka is severely drunk, but no - instead this is a snares-and-piano filled sad and emo track from yuyoyuppe with some fantastic static sections and a absolutely crazy climax of atonal chords and mile-a-minute piano solos.

Butterfly(とくP) 歌ってみた【みーむ】

(Butterfly (Miimu), Fandub, Soft Pop)
I think some other comm linked this but I can't remember nor find it so whatever. This is the fantastic toku's Butterfly from last week's update, covered in gorgeous style by miimu.

(raid of glass, Gumi, Angst Rock, Blade of Glass? Raid of Glass? Raid of Grass? it is a mystery)
Not one but two angsty Gumi songs? Say it ain't so! This one has rather more of the trappings of classic Anime Rock about it and less of the sheer angry, but it's still a fantastic track delivered by maya with a classy video and a lot of baaaaaw.

(Bye-Bye, Rin, Rock)
Samfree's second offering this week. As you'd expect being Rin, this is somewhat more of an angry sound, but not much more; just about on this side of the rock-pop separation line, this is a guitar-filled track with angsty undertones and a lovely Rin voice.

(asu・douyutsuhua, Len + Rin, Eurodance)
I'm not entirely sure if there's any sense to be made from this track's lyrics, as half the time it's going way too fast for me - either way, this is a delightful dancey earworm of a track, pipipipipipipi doot doot.

(Two Men's Hangman Tree?, Miku, Easy If Creepy Listening)
Machigerita gives us our freaky-deakys for the week with this track which... is at least ostensibly a pleasant listen. But that atonal backing and the entire general feel of the song get very creepy very fast and it's all very weird and then you look at the tree and the nooses and suddenly his head seems like a scary place to live in. Maybe he'll kill Miki for not being included in that album.

巡音ルカ「Gravity=Reality」【オリジナル曲】

(Gravity=Reality, Luka, Pop)
Third of the samfree offerings this week. While it's perfectly listenable to this is the one I like least of the set - Luka's voice is way, way too high to be believable and it's just a little too candypop even for me to stomach. It doesn't seem like that's supposed to ... exactly be Luka's point.
