Today in the library, as I walked to the check-out with a Hamish MacBeth I hadn't read on the top of the stack, a lady says to me, "Oh, I love those books! The latest one, Death of a Kingfisher (I think) is really good! Doesn't he remind you of Castle?"
Then we chattered about the fact that Hamish let love slip through his hands (the idiot) and Castle was smart enough to catch it.
Then she asked if I knew Firefly. Oh, yeah. We basked in our mutual nerdy awesomeness. Her teenage daughter decided she liked me because I'm a nerd.
I said, "It's just like I tell the kids at school: 'The nerds have all the money!'"
On my way out the door, I said to the teenager, "Marry a nerd!" She agreed.
The Mutual Awesomeness society has expanded a little in Lafayette. Firefly fans are more numerous than one realizes. Nerds recognize each other, especially in the library.
