Talking Meme: Sharon Raydor, Feminist

May 12, 2015 15:14

As part of the ongoing talking meme some of us are doing, today I'm tackling astreamofstars question: Talk to me about Sharon Raydor as a character. What's your take on her? What do you love about her? If you've watched her in The Closer as well as Major Crimes, how do you feel about the differences in portrayal from a feminist perspective?

Long, thinky answer below the cut )

feminism, the closer, sharon raydor, mary mcdonnell, talking meme, meme, major crimes

This is a wonderful meta of her, and your journey through MC land (and TC land).

Just food for thought: I'm watching the discussion of her being promoted and then saw your thoughts here, and...I'm wondering if her being promoted wouldn't propel her into more desk work (higher supervisory jobs usually do, but I don't know about law enforcement at that level). And I have mixed feelings about that. I know you know this, but paper-pushing is various levels of hard depending on the work environment. I wish it wasn't written so boring because I remember almost doing cartwheels and high fives over writing a justification to get a new desperately needed position or a new training module. I think I love her tangles with Taylor and the city attorney just because that looks so danged realistic.

Probably not riveting TV, though. Although seeing her process being chewed up in the media or something could be written interestingly. Especially if Rusty, Andy, Andrea, etc. had to just stand by and let her deal with it and couldn't really help her, but just stand and watch her take the hit.
