It's a date!

No, not that kind. And don't get all excited like that again. You make me feel lonely single instead of fun single.

I received a call from Chad, Dante's owner. Actually I received two calls from him but I missed the one last night since apparently my phone ringer can't overcome the sound of rolling balls and falling (or in my case, laughing because I guttered..again) pins.

His audible relief about finding me and optimism that Dante might have a new home makes me happy. He's very honest about any of Dante's shortcomings and repeated them a few times because I didn't seem to be concerned.

And I'm not. House-breaking and containment are no big deal, especially with an adult Akita. Honestly, one of my most frustrating transport runs was with an Akita - I literally walked that damn dog around for 10 minutes at a rest stop because he desperately needed to go to the bathroom but couldn't poop with me watching. Dude, I'm 4 feet away at the other end of the leash - what do you want me to do, turn my back and hum? Notoriously prissy about dirt and bathroom, as I now know all too well. :)

It just feels a little too fated though, you know? Like Kat mentioned yesterday - Dante is only one letter removed from Dane. And Chad told me today that one of the real reasons they're rehoming him is not the non-existent yard which means he's kenneled most of the time. It's the fact that they actually had two dogs and ended up having to put down Dante's best friend, Wiley, a few months ago. Since that time, Dante's just started to waste away.

He also asked me all of the right questions. His main concern is just finding the right home for his dog, hopefully I'm it. He seems to think I am. He also told me not to worry about giving him $50, when I protested - after all, a fee is a fee and he's got two little girls with Christmas right around the corner - he told me that the best Christmas gift is knowing that Dante's in a good home.

As it stands right now, I'm going out tomorrow night to meet them and am taking the DemonDog along to try an introduction. Considering the fact that Dante keeps breaking out of the kennel/yard just to find someone to play with, the only issues will be on Nikkia's side. I think she'll like him - I hope she'll like him - he's got braincells. :)
