(no subject)
OK...so my household grew by four this weekend...
Now, in addition to my cat, Tao, and my Betta fishie, Wrex, I now have two red-eared slider turtles and two goldfish ... and I have no idea what to call any of them!
It's illegal to sell turtles in Alberta, but some idiot just dropped these two off at a pet store that my good friend manages. Now, she can't sell them, and she can't take them home. (She tried, but she has a much bigger turtle at home, who took a chunk out of one of the newcomers' shells.)
So, 24 hours and about $500 worth of equipment later ... they're happily basking under a sunlamp in my foyer, with the two goldfish swimming around and sharing their food pellets.
The smaller of the two seems to be the most dominant - that is, he's always in the prime basking spot, directly under the light, with his back feet extended out to catch the full rays. (see above) The larger turtle is the one who got the nibble taken out of his poor shell.
The night before I picked them up, I kept having nightmares that I was killing them, mistreating them, didn't know how to keep them alive and they kept dying! :cry: But so far they seem to be content.
My next purchase will be a hard-shell kiddie pool so I can take them out in the back yard on hot days like this one...
So, if anyone can think of some awesome turtle-Y names, that would be wicked-kewl. (It's too bad Wrex is taken, but I suppose I could call one of them Inamorda! hehehe)
