So I went to a great concert yesterday. It was my first in over three years, so I was really excited to go.
I saw
Jonezetta,
Meg & Dia,
Bayside, and
Anberlin.
Okay, let's see...
Jonezetta was pretty good. They're a band from Mississippi whose style is a blend of synths and alternative rock. Their guitarist fell over a couple times (on purpose, I assume) and played while on the ground, and the rest of the group seemed alright, but I had heard their music before, and I can't honestly say that I would be a fan of theirs.
Meg & Dia were next. They're two sisters with three touring musicians. Meg played the guitar and Dia sang. They were straight up rock and roll, and had some attitude to them, and put on a pretty good set. I had never heard their music, but Zack bought their album after the show, so I'll probably give it a listen sometime.
Bayside was the third band to perform, and next to Anberlin, they seemed to have a lot of fans who showed up that night. The singer reminded us several times that they were from New York, but other than that, they kept it rather fresh, even playing an acoustic song toward the end. I can probably describe their sound as rock with a punk edge. The only real downer of their set were their unruly fans who kept running into me and Zack, but other than that, Bayside played a good set, in my opinion.
Finally, after taking a while to get set up, Anberlin came on and played a wonderful set. They had black boxes on the stage that the singer and bassist stood on, making them look cooler (and taller). They had a great light setup as well, which really improved the visual aspect of their performance. Dia from Meg & Dia came back on the stage to sing background vocals for "The Unwinding Cable Car". Anberlin chose well from their three albums, performing classics both old and new. Finally, after leaving the stage, the cry of "one more song" (possibly) persuaded them to return and play an encore, "(*Fin)", from their new album Cities.
After the show, Zack bought an Anberlin shirt (as did I), and he also bought the Meg & Dia CD I mentioned above.
My ears recovered quickly after the nearly four hour barrage of rock and roll blazing from the giant speakers, but my legs were slower to recover. I stood in the same area for most of the show, and it's not a good idea! In fact, they still hurt to walk even as I am writing this, I can still feel the pain. So if anyone reads this, if you could pray that my legs will be healed, I would appreciate it.
I took some pictures of each band, but since it was my cell phone camera, it didn't turn out too well. I should have brought my digital camera, as security was lax on the issue of cameras at the venue. But if you want to check out the pics anyway, go
here.
If you read this blog, thank you.
