http://www.shanghaiist.com/archives/2006/10/13/feasting_time_i.phpPyongyangist? Feasting time in North Korea!
On the same day that the “
Dear Leader” of our
friendly northeastern neighbour decided to press ahead with nuclear tests, a brave Singaporean entrepreneur
announced his decision to invade the reclusive commie state with his brand of - guess what - sushi!
According to Douglas Foo, who owns
Sakae Sushi, a highly successful regional chain that has also found its way into Shanghai:
There is a vast amount of untapped opportunities there… [there is] almost no competition among its restaurants, which already include some high-end Japanese eateries.
Smart move, Douglas! We haven’t heard of the “vast amount of untapped opportunities there”, but we know there are
many hungry mouths to feed. So you might just be right on that one!
Makes us just wanna quit our job right now and sign up for the next trip with
Koryo Tours! Hell, we might even
start a business there! English schools, anyone? Chinese restaurants, perhaps? (Don’t steal our idea!) With sheer diligence and a fair amount of luck, Shanghaiist will finally have the chance to make it to
this list!
In the event that a war does break out on the peninsula though, the rest of you might want to consider
huddling together in this
bomb shelter. There might not be any sushi there, but we think you will be very, very safe.
