Continued Rage-Facing...

Aug 27, 2014 18:15

Even after sleeping on it, even after having over a day to get over it, I'm still beyond enraged.

You see this?

In my headcanon, in my reality, this is what actually happened. This is Matt Bomer with the Emmy he oh-so-rightfully won. With Mark hiding his Emmy somewhere because he, too, of course, won. This is not the ONLY Emmy The Normal Heart won, with Matty and Mark showing it off and smiling into the cameras while inwardly not trying to hulk out over the fucking injustice of it all.

You see this?

This is everyone's reaction when the so-called "winner" was announced. Do you see the look on Matty's face? His heart is breaking, and still he's trying his best to be classy. Jim Parsons is ready to KILL SOMEONE. Alfred Molina and Joe Mantello display a perfect mix of disgust and disbelief. And I actually double-checked online: Colin Hanks, bless his heart, did an actual double-take and mouthed either a "What?!" or a "Wow..." Either way, he was just as shocked.

MATT BOMER WAS FUCKING ROBBED.

Oh, as a side note, dear Twitter-Idiots Who Are Butt-Hurt That Millions Of Matty Fans Scream In Outrage: Martin Freeman did not deserve to win because he was "awesome in Fargo". He was nominated for Sherlock in that category. Get your fucking facts right before bitch-whining. If you feel he deserves an Emmy for Fargo, bitch about the fact that Cumberbatch "stole" that award from him. Assholes.

Speaking of Sherlock: you know what Steven Moffat said? You know, the Exec Producer of that show? "'The Normal Heart' is brilliant, just brilliant. I feel guilty for every award we took from them." Not that it's your fault, Mr. Moffat, but yeah, you friggin' should feel guilty.

Since just about everyone (from casual viewers to apparently everyone at the ceremony to social media and Hollywood) was shocked by the disgusting results, I did a bit of digging and found this very interesting article in the Hollywood Reporter. Do you want to know how the winners are picked? Do you want to know how the voting system works? Allow me to explain:

The entire TV Academy membership, which numbers around 16,000, weighs in on Emmy nominations, with actors picking acting nominees, directors picking directing nominees, etc., and everyone weighing in on the program nominees. But, post-nominations, a variety of smaller panels of volunteers, each just a few dozen members, pick the winners.

Let's recap for a moment: Just a few dozen members pick the winners. A. Few. Dozen. (And I read somewhere else, though I forget where, that they don't even have to watch the nominees' work. They pick a winner. Without. Watching. The Nominees' Work. No wonder the same old, same old folks win over and over again.)

Of course, Matty said it best when he stated, back in April,  "Whatever happens from this point on says a lot more about the business and society than it does about me."

Unfortunately, he was very right. Business and (this part of) society proved that bigotry, homophobia and narrow-mindedness are still prevalent. I'm glad that the Critics' Choice Awards reflected a different point of view. I also hope that the Golden Globes and the SAG Awards will have the guts, not to mention the integrity, to give The Normal Heart and everyone who was involved the awards they so rightly deserve.

In closing, in case anyone missed it, here's Ryan Murphy's wonderful and touching acceptance speech:

(I was trying to embed the vid, but unfortunately, whenever I copied the code, LJ deleted it in the process, so please click the link and watch the vid on the Slate website.)

(Ryan? I really wish you also would've mentioned Matty, and not just Mark and Julia. But that's ok. We know you love and adore and admire him.)

I promise I'm done ranting now. I just needed to get this out of my system.

argh!!!, the normal heart will break my heart, ranting, wtf, fail, asshattery
