There’s this reaction in organic chemistry that takes place at low temperatures (around 4 C). If the chemicals get even half way to room temperature (12 C) the reactions mechanism changes and the results are a carboxylic acid instead of an alcohol. If the same chemicals are added at R.T the reaction is so exothermic that it explodes. There is another reaction in which everything is opposite (a 4 C the things blows). My professor told me this and started to get all metaphysical on me. To get a feel for the aura of this conversation: on a Wednesday night I found myself smoking a pipe with a gray haired (he’s 78) professor of Organic Chemistry in a chemistry lab. We didn’t have lighters or matches so we used a bunsen burner. The point to this soliloquy being this- he told me that I didn’t have what it takes to make it though medical school.
On a positive note, I rule at rock paper scissors.
