I think you're a creative icon maker, but sometimes you go a bit overboard. You generally have a really fun usage of color, but once in a while an icon seems so out of place. The last one in this batch is that out of place one. I usually try to get into an icon maker's mind and figure out what their vision was, but I can't for that icon.

You had a beautiful Firefly batch of icons a long time ago. I'd love to see you go back to lots of colors and lighting, because I think that's a forte of yours.

:) thankyou for commenting

I realised that I don't make very many light icons, I tend to go for the dark and moody so I wanted to counteract that and just do something that was just very light and clean and pure and fresh. :P

hm, I thought I was (e.g. the whole top row)

You do such wonderful things with reds/yellows/blues. I definitely think you're better at the brighter, outlandish colorings than the softer ones, because in the second row the only one with any depth to it is the first, which is also the brightest. The seventh and last ones, in particular, look like they were made by someone not-you, and they both also look to me like they may have image quality problems. Overall though I'm usually quite impressed by your icons.

hm, interesting. Thankyou.

May I ask which icons in your opinion best epitomise my style? I've always thought that dark and moody were two of the words that best described it and the seventh one fits that to a tee.

I've only really been running into you fairly recently, so I don't know if you've changed styles or what, but pulling from your userpics and journal so I get some different icons from the ones posted here...

I don't know that this is necessarily what I feel best epitomizes your style, but it's definitely what I think you do best and most uniquely, and the sort of thing that makes me go "omg, how!?? How is that so amazing!?1?" and die a little inside because I think I'll never be that awesome.

The seventh one, I think, mainly just needs a bit more contrast. If you ratcheted up the highlights on her forehead, nose/cheeks, and lips a bit, I think it would stand out quite a bit more. Not by a lot, mind you, but enough to get a little more easily-visible definition so that the side of her face, her jaw, and her neck aren't just one big shadow. When I look at it on its own, it looks fine, if a bit static, but when it is plopped down in the middle of the other icons, it just looks like it needs more contrast.

I fell in love with your icons from the moment I saw them.

I do have and idea about the work that goes into these icons, so I do appreciate them. I always pictured your style to be very bold. A lot of color explosions, but never overly sharpened. Also, I have noticed that your darks never go too dark. Which is awesome.

I am not that much of a fan of icons like #7 or #8. I think that's mainly because you can do such lovely work with color and here I see you limiting yourself to a color palette that's pretty much just browns. On #10, I like it, but I think that's partially because I know it was made a certain way, so I can appreciate the end result. Otherwise, I don't think you would've gone as light on that one.

And #01 needs to be praised for the amount of work that went into it.

PS. I love the light dustiness of #9. I know some of your other work contains that (sorta like #2). Would love to see more of it.

But you know me. I like it bright and shiny and awesome.

darn, why is nobody getting that #10 is supposed to be too bright? :P

I know the dustyness you speak of and I will definitely aim to achieve it more :D

If it helps, I like #10 but don't know why.

So you know I worship the ground you walk on, right? Well I do.

I also have different taste to everybody in this thread, but hey, that's nothing new. :P Personally I think you're at your best when you're doing dark/broody icons. Things like #8 stick out for me, because they're so different to everything else that's happening in the icon making 'world' at the moment. Basically I want to see more. I'll talk more about your bright icons later, but the only criticism I have about your dark icons is that there aren't enough.

Now, bright icons! Lol. I think you have a fantastic colour palette going with the reds/yellows/aquas. I suppose the only criticism that I have about these is that sometimes they lack a bit of kick. I think one thing that you do well is utilize really rich colours in your icons, both light and dark. Take #10 for example. Even though it's bright, you've still got the deep, rich green/yellow shadows which offsets the whites/pale blues. In contrast, I think #9 doesn't have that deep colour which you do so well.

Other than that, I'd love to see some more b/w icons. Just because I think you'd put a really original spin on them.

:DD thankyou! And because of this I'm really interested in hearing what you think of my concrit of you.

YES!! Thankyou that's exactly what I aim for! I will try and do more :D

hmm... I wouldn't hold your breath :P
In my opinion black and white = "I wasn't able to get good enough colouring" because anything black and white can do colour can do better :P

Although I might though, you never know ;)

I read it before I went out, and now I'm so inspired. Ah, I'll reply more in a sec. To that comment.

I've figured it out. Your icons are like Jennifer Saunders. IMDB her if you're not familiar. On the outside they're bright, rich, attractive; except underneath all of that is an unspoken complexity that can't be harnessed in words. That is officially the smartest thing I've said all day. (=

In my opinion black and white = "I wasn't able to get good enough colouring" because anything black and white can do colour can do better :P
Lol. You know, half the time that's true with my iconning. But the other half.. I don't know. I think that b/w icons are something that I haven't quite seen anybody nail yet. flatlined and drankmywar do bright, prettybutt does lost, you do broody, but I can't actually think of anybody that just sweeps the floor with their b/w icons. I think I might have just uncovered a whole market out there. (:

While I think it's great that you have a 'colour signature' ie, 2-5, I am not actually enamoured with it. It seems too dull, and while I know you thinks it's important to pull back and such, I think you've gone too far. They don't pop (5 is good though, I think it just needs a little more.)

Also this 'dark' colouring you've got... it's unique, but it seems to be a little boring - I really like this one, it's dark, but with that yellow that you do AWESOMELY. kind of the same for this one which is, in my opinion, the best icon you've ever made. It's no conincidence talkofcake is using it, too! Have some more examples where your bright colouring made me swoon ever so slightly :P 1 2 3 4
What I'm saying is, the best things you do have that dark colouring, but one or two colours (preferably yellow or cyan, or red) that really POP right out at you. I also really like the fact that there is no BLACK in your icons, just that dark grey which I think works really well.

Recently I think you've been concentrating on your colouring rather than cropping. In the past you had some awesome cropping - 1 2 3 4 56
Your cropping isn't BAD now, it's just mainly boring :P

ps. I love this. Bring back some grainy textures, I think it could work out for you! :)

i think they are very creative. but you should work on trying not to be too contrasted and extreme

Your icons are really creative. THey are beautiful and you use textures like no one.

#6 is perfect in my opinion. On #7, there's something in her face that looks a bit weird, maybe it's the light. I don't know how to explain it but it kinda looks strange. And maybe 10 is a bit oversaturated.
