Just use any screencap software that doesn't come with the Mac. Screenshot Pro and Capture Me are a couple I've used.
Or, you can use a DVD player that doesn't come with the Mac-that way it won't know a DVD is playing. VLC is the best option, and an essential player anyway. With it, you can use a screencap program, or control-click on the video to take a "snapshot" which will be saved to the desktop, or hit command-shift-4 (which you can do anytime on a Mac except when DVD Player is running) and select the area you'd like to capture, which will be saved to the desktop.
