Yay! I am finally back home with my beloved
lysimache and dog, both of whom I am very happy to see. Whee.
That was, however, the only high point of the last couple days. As alert readers may recall, I have a cold. Flying with a cold sucks. Not only do you have to sit on airplanes for six hours with tissues jammed up your nose, the pressure changes clog your ears. Or my ears anyway. Mostly the right one, though the left is not at its best either. I don't think it's infected (yet), 'cause it doesn't really hurt, although the pressure is getting uncomfortable. I keep yawning, but it hasn't popped. Grr arg stupid Eustachian tubes. Plus, still sick. I also appear to have (hopefully temporarily) lost my ability to taste sweet things. Soda has a disgustingly bitter taste, and ice cream is merely creamy and not sugary. If I'm not better soon I'm gonna go to the doctor. Any other ear-clearing suggestions?
And then, on the way back from the airport last night, we hit a pothole on the highway -- it was dark, the thing was totally invisible, and got a flat tire. Hooray for AAA. After about half an hour of sitting in the shoulder with flashers on, a guy showed up and towed the car to the gas station and got the spare (which was out of air anyway) on for us. So today was spent trying to find a tire place that was (a) open on Sunday and (b) not all booked up. Finally ended up at Sears Auto Center, and they hammered the rim back into place and put on the snow tires that we brought them.
So that all sucked. But at least I got back here before the snow tomorrow, and I have food, and I have
lysimache. Even if I can't hear.
