Where does that come from? I mean, where does one get advance information about words about to be added to the OED?

It actually came up as part of a search on oed.com. My university pays for online OED access, so I can search the dictionary online there. It gave me results for "slash" in the New Edition, I clicked, and voila. Also, I think I've seen some articles elsewhere about various modern words that have been added, so presumably they have some sort of press release too.

How wonderful. I'm officially jealous.

And you're right, of course, they do put out press releases about new words, but it's always something boring and already-become-a-cliché like "cyberspace" that they feature.
