What I Just Finished Reading

Nothing. But, hey, my copy of a Steve/Tony zine from Poland got here! I... can't read Polish.

What I'm Reading Now

Comics Wednesday!

2020 Machine Man #1: Here we go, time for the robot pain. Anyway, this is two stories. One is about Machine Man's doomed love for Jocasta, who is still brainwashed to work for the other side. And he frees some more robots. And the Machine Man of 2020 shows up and I am confused. And then there is a second story about humans hunting for discarded technology. Eh. It's okay.

Captain America #19: Okay, so Agatha Harkness shows up to explain about Peggy? Sure, whatever. Alexa Lukin (back when everyone was on the same side) trained Peggy and was her handler and I am very confused. Apparently Agatha brought her back to life? And I guess she's a brunette now? And also Alexa Lukin has stolen Sharon's soul and I am even more confused. So they have to find some kind of stone and Steve apologizes for not trusting her and Sharon gives him his shield back? And the spell means that Aleksandr Lukin and the Red Skull are both coming back and why am I reading this again?

Captain Marvel #15: Now time for Carol to go after She-Hulk. Which she does, adding to the number of people inside Singularity. Carol thinks the bombs being planted by the villain are inside the Kree refugees. Then she has to take down Steve. Who immediately yields. Tony has a plan, but the villain knocks Carol out and now we have a cliffhanger.

Guardians of the Galaxy #2: Back to the Olympus plot! That better not have been Phyla sacrificing herself to save Rich; I will be so mad. Hopefully she is not dead and was just doing evac.

Marauders #8: Kitty is dead and everyone is upset -- Bobby gives some people frostbite and Ororo slaps Emma -- and Sebastian Shaw glories in his victory. But, hey, Lockheed is alive.

Marvel's Voices #1: A one-shot issue (I think?) spotlighting Marvel's "creatives of color," as the introduction words it. Anyway, it's a lot of very sweet little short stories (yes, there's a one-page story of superheroes at Pride) and it's a great book and I was glad to see Alitha Martinez drawing one of the stories. (She drew the first Ty Stone arc, IIRC.)

New Mutants #7: The New Mutants get Deathbird to Chandilar where, surprise, it's a trap. Eventually the punching is over and they make a gate but Sam doesn't want to come back so Bobby might stay for a bit. Because he's in love with Deathbird. Whatever.

What I'm Reading Next

I started Don't Sleep, There Are Snakes (pop-linguistics non-fiction by the guy who did fieldwork with the Piraha, which probably means nothing to non-linguists but their language is Very Interesting and if you have ever been a linguist you have heard of them, I'm sure) although alas so far it seems to be mostly about his personal feelings about missionary work.
