Scrivener 3 for AO3

Feb 20, 2018 19:17

On the off chance that anyone else is using Scrivener 3 (currently for Mac only but I think the Windows update is coming soon) to write fanfiction and post to AO3, I have come up with a Compile format that will export your story with horizontal rules between scenes and will also wrap all italics in HTML italics tags. There is probably a way to make it do fancier things involving things like chapter headers but I haven't figured that out yet. And also there is probably a way to make it export more actual HTML, with paragraph breaks and proper em-dashes and whatnot, but I would also need to figure that out.

(Scrivener 3 seems very cool so far but has massively redone how Compile works so now there is a very large learning curve when it comes to getting your writing out of the program. However, I am pretty excited about being able to produce AO3-ready markup with one click, which is way easier than what I was doing, because as far as I can tell this wasn't possible in Scrivener 2.)

So if all the HTML you want for your stories is scene breaks and italics (which is basically all I want most of the time), let me know and I can either give you my .scrformat file or just tell you how I did it.
