Iacta alea est

Hey internet! Know what movie I'm going to go see eleventy million times after they finally make it?

The Roman, which is about the time itty-bitty Julius Caesar was captured by Cilician pirates. No, really. No, really. Best movie premise ever. I hope they actually make it. I hope Mark Wahlberg doesn't decide to star in it.

(Given that Caesar was possibly on his way back from Bithynia at the time I would go to the theater an additional eleventy billion times if they put Nicomedes in. But they probably won't. Anyway, thanks,
lysimache for linking me to this.)

Maybe I should have requested Caesar/Nicomedes for Yuletide again after all. (On the other hand, a lot of anonymous people seem to like the idea of Hannibal/Scipio, so I guess we'll see, won't we?)

...WTF. I just found out that apparently there exists a Caesar/Nicomedes opera. From 1971. Originally performed with puppets. What. It's called "Young Caesar." Apparently you can listen to the original version at archive.org, including an interview with the composer about growing up gay in San Francisco. Some of the recent performance is on YouTube (one, two, and here is a recording of some of the arias). Yes, it's in English.

Art is strange.
