Heteronormativity in one -- no, wait, two -- sentences.

So lysimache really enjoys watching House Hunters, a television program in which a person (okay, usually a couple) who wants to buy a house is shown three different houses and picks one at the end. Yes, it's pretty much "Buying a House: The Game Show."

The one that was on yesterday featured a couple from Nashville who were interested in buying a new house because they were expecting a child, and therefore needed more room for a nursery and a bonus room so the husband could do manly things or something. I don't know; I mostly wasn't watching.

The end of the show always features the happy homeowner(s) enjoying their new home, and in this particular episode they chose to show the couple announcing the sex of their unborn child to their family.

And she said, I swear, the following words: "Well, we're not going to have a little football player! We're having a cheerleader!"

Oh God. Isn't that the most hideous thing you've heard in the history of ever?

Mostly I hope that their future daughter is straight and cisgendered and exactly biologically female and generally completely secure in her orientation and gender identity and everything else ever, because otherwise it's going to be hell growing up in that family. And I'm sure they just think they're being cute and funny.
