this made me happy

this may be bragging, but it made me so happy and it makes me feel like maybe i did do someting worthwhile.

the person who is writing the book sent me the bit of the afterword about me. part of it was so incredibly validating of all the stuff i did with bus:

"I asked her if she would mind if I spoke with Armando Favazza, author of Bodies under Siege, about the impact of her online advocacy and she agreed. I interviewed him by phone a few days later. Debra, he told me, 'was a real pioneer in the field of self-harming, with the website that she started to get the information out. She deserves a tremendous amount of credit for bringing the problem of deliberate self-harming into public consciousness. Hers was really the first website to provide coherent, meaningful and helpful information to people who self-harm, to not only remove the stigma, but provide professionals with guidelines for how to deal with individuals who deliberately harm themselves.' He asked me if I'd seen the document she'd drafted that is still broadly used, 'The Bill of Rights for People Who Self Harm.'"

so yeah. i did something that mattered. when i am beating myself up, i am going to come back and read this and be happy because however small it was (and however selfish my motivations), i did something that made a difference.
