Important KNON News

Hey boys and girls!

As many of you are well aware, KNON is a non-commercial, non-profit, volunteer-based community radio station. That means that, unlike commercial stations, we don't sell our air time to corporate advertisers. You will never hear a Coke commercial, and no KNON DJ will ever get on air and tell you how great their Lasik surgery was. Likewise, we reject pay-for-play incentives from record labels.

Our motto is "the voice of the people," and our primary goal is to be a resource for those interested in music and news outside of the mainstream. In the case of Rocket Radio, this is achieved via weekly guest slots featuring area DJs and producers, and by playing a significant amount of listener requests. In fact, a bare minimum of 50% of Rocket Radio's broadcast time is listener requests and guest artists each week.

You will NOT get that kind of listener control ANYWHERE else in the metroplex.

Its not cheap to run a radio station, though. On an extremely bare bones, basic budget, KNON's monthly operating expenses average around $50,000.

The vast majority of our operating revenue comes from tax-deductible donations from our listeners. Unfortunately, while KNON management would love to provide for each and every niche musical taste out there, its only practical to keep the programming that generates enough listener interest to generate enough pledges to keep KNON from financially going under.

In the past 3 months, KNON has quite unfortunately had to cut a total of 3 shows including one of our reggae shows.
Very soon, the board of directors will be meeting again to discuss further format changes at the station.

And when a format is canceled from a time slot, kids, it doesn't come back. Gone. For good.

And guess what?? We're right in the middle of pledge drive, right now! We did well last week, and thank you very much! But its really extremely important that we do it again this week. We wouldn't want to lose Dallas's only dance/industrial/experimental radio program, would we?

Just think about all of the local, national, and international artists that you discovered via Rocket Radio. Think about all of the artists that you can't hear on the radio anywhere else in the metroplex. Think about how many local DJs you've really dug in the guest slots.

And if Rocket Radio were to go away…….. What would you listen to on your way home from your Friday night out?!

So please pledge, and show your support for community programming of electronic music. It’s a scene thing.
You can do so by calling the studio during the show. 972.647.1893
