Ozzfest featuring Metallica, Ozzy Ozzbourne, Serj Tankian, Devil Driver, and more
Pizza Hut Park
Frisco, Texas
August 9, 2008
I was gonna wait to post pics and video before I reviewed but seeing as how Im a lazy bastid, I'll just review now.
Got there around 3:30. Surprisingly we were able to park pretty close; although the parking fee was hefty - $20!
We got to our seats in time to see Cavalera Conspiracy. - They played at the same time as Devil Driver and seeing as how Devil Driver comes here a lot more than CC, I chose to hear CC b/c I think everything Max does is badass. Their set was great.
After that we decided to walk over to the other stages but there wasn't really anything good going on so we went back to our seats, which by the way, were strategically bought so that we were in the shade the entire time. THANK GOD
Heres the rest of the bands I saw -
Johnathan Davis - I was totally bored. His voice is just whiney to me now. I liked the early Korn stuff but his solo stuff does nothing for me.
Hell Yeah - pretty good set. Chad is a badass singer no doubt. Although it makes me sad to hear him sing cheezy shit like "Alcohol and Ass" cuz I think as a poet he is much deeper than that.
Dimebag Tribute - I'm with Kiri, it was confusing b/c they didn't introduce anyone. I really enjoyed watching Kerry King jam with Kirk Hammett though. And I thought it was really badass that they incorporated King Diamond into all that business too, seeing as how he lives in Frisco and is a big part of Texas metal as a whole. The video at the beginning was cool and did bring a tear to my eye.
Serj Tankian - not a bad set but I prefer him with System of a Down. I don't think he was really laced at the right timeslot either b/c by that time in the day things were moving in a heavy/fast fashion and his stuff was more theatrical/moody. He should have played earlier.
Ozzy - All you people who were complaining about ozzy must not have seen him last year b/c last year he was really bad. So bad that he apologized to the crowd. I thought he sounded 1000 times better this year. Honestly, hes old and hes done lots of drugs and I think the touring was wearing him out. He had tons more energy this year and sounded better. His intro was fucking hilarious. I found a video of it for those who want to see it. The sound kinda sucks but you get the idea. -

You gotta love his sense of humor. He played for a looooooooooong time though. The fireworks after his set was a nice touch.
Metallica - The last time I saw them was at Texas Stadium in 1992 with Guns and Roses and Faith No More. James Hetfiled needs to work on his crowd talking/front man skills but I was really glad to hear all their songs again. They have so much good, old material. Harvester of Sorrow was my favorite, hands down. I had forgotten how sick that song is. I think overall they sounded pretty good/tight. I like that they brought King Diamond on stage with them at the end.
Venue - Pizza Hut Park is 1000 times better than Superpages.com center IMO. The people who were working were actually friendly! They have more choices of food and drink. They have AIRCONDITIONED BATHROOMS. Hell yeah. Its nice to escape in there and cool down for a few minutes when you're dealing with that kind of heat and humidity.
Overall I had a badass time.
